Maitland City Council is a diverse and dynamic organisation in a rapidly growing LGA. We are seeking an experienced and passionate Senior Ranger to join our highly skilled and growing Regulatory Compliance team to make a true and meaningful impact on our community.


About the Role

As a Senior Ranger you will provide leadership, coaching and support to members of the Ranger team and will uphold and advocate a culture that supports efficiencies as well as the delivery of exceptional customer experiences by the Ranger team.

You will perform the full range of Ranger duties, including investigating, assessing and managing a range of enforcement activities, including but not limited to animal/stock control, litter, illegal dumping, abandoned vehicles and articles, parking regulation and patrols of public lands.

As the Senior Ranger, you will manage complex complaints, correspondence and enquiries, take initiative to drive best practice solutions, engage in stakeholder consultation and negotiation to effectively resolve issues, whilst promoting public education and voluntary compliance.

Additionally, you will enforce the compliance of applicable legislation, regulations and Council policies, whilst keeping abreast of any changes in laws/policies. You will undertake investigations by gathering evidence to substantiate legislation breaches and prepare investigative reports and documentation in support of legal action and/or prosecutions, ensuring accurate records are maintained.


About You

With a Certificate IV in Local Government (Regulatory Services), or equivalent relevant experience and training, ideally within a Ranger, law enforcement or regulatory role, and will have experience handling animals and livestock, and impounding vehicles.

You will have experience interpreting and applying relevant legislation, regulations, and policies, preferably within a Local Government context. Contemporary industry knowledge and experience in conducting investigations, court procedures and interview skills will be essential.

In addition, you will be a strong leader with the proven ability to mentor staff, as well as work independently and as a productive member of a team to contribute to the fulfilment of team goals.

* A current driver's licence
* Flexible in the hours that you can work across a 7-day rotating roster
* Ability to work on call

The role is a permanent full-time position, working 38 hours per week, on a rotating 7-day roster with a base salary range of $84,237 up to $ 93,503 per year based on demonstrated skills and experience + 12% p.a. super + commuter use vehicle.
