About Our Restaurant
The Knock Restaurant is a rapidly growing venue located on the Rockingham Foreshore. We have been operating for three years and have built a strong reputation for serving high-quality, authentic Mediterranean cuisine. We operate five days a week, offering lunch and dinner service. The restaurant is located at The Boardwalk, Shop 1 & 2, Railway Terrace, Rockingham, WA.
The Position
We are seeking a talented and experienced Sous Chef to join our dynamic kitchen team. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, high-energy environment and can remain calm under pressure while promoting clear communication, teamwork, and a positive workplace culture.
Core Duties
• Follow directions from owners and senior management
• Maintain exceptional standards in food quality and presentation
• Prepare and cook Mediterranean-style dishes, including pasta, entrées, and salads
• Manage pan and grill sections during peak service periods
• Ensure compliance with Work Health & Safety (WHS) and food hygiene regulations
• Minimise food waste and assist with stock control and inventory management
• Work collaboratively with kitchen staff to ensure efficient service
• Assist with menu planning, food and labour cost estimation, and ordering supplies
• Monitor dish quality at all stages of preparation and presentation
• Demonstrate cooking techniques and provide guidance on preparation procedures
• Enforce food safety and hygiene standards
• Assist in selecting and training kitchen staff when required
• Freeze and preserve food as necessary
Required Qualifications & Experience
• Minimum of 5 years' experience in a busy, fast-paced restaurant environment, ideally with Mediterranean cuisine
• Strong skills in pan and grill cooking techniques
• Experience catering for events and functions (advantageous)
• High commitment to food quality and customer service
• Sound knowledge of WHS, food safety, and sanitation standards
• Ability to work efficiently under pressure
• Reliable, adaptable, punctual, and professional
• Strong communication skills with a positive attitude
• Availability to work weekdays, weekends, and evenings
• Certificate III or IV in Commercial Cookery (preferred)
