About the role
We're offering a rare and rewarding opportunity for an experienced Gas Drainage Engineer to join our team at Ironbark No.1, located in the Bowen Basin. This is your chance to be part of a new mine development and help shape its future from the ground up.
Reporting to the Technical Services Superintendent, you'll be responsible for managing both surface and underground gas drainage systems, including UIS/SIS drilling and associated gas reticulation infrastructure. Your work will be critical in maintaining safe gas levels to support uninterrupted mining operations and optimal production rates.
You'll lead a gas drainage program that aligns with safety, environmental, budgetary, and production objectives—while ensuring cost-effective delivery. We're looking for a driven and knowledgeable professional who's ready to make a real impact in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities include
* Ensure mining operations remain unaffected by gas conformance issues.
* Design and implement effective gas drainage programs to support both short-term and life-of-mine (LOM) strategies.
* Communicate known gas drainage risks and hazards clearly across the business.
* Provide expert advice on fit-for-purpose, cost-effective gas drainage solutions aligned with mine plans and schedules.
* Lead and optimise gas drainage drilling activities, ensuring efficiency and compliance.
* Support budget development and proactively manage gas drainage costs.
* Conduct regular audits of gas drainage systems, including performance and quality assurance checks.
* Foster a positive and collaborative team culture, building strong working relationships across departments.
* Actively contribute to the implementation and ongoing compliance with the Safety and Health Management System (SHMS).
* Ensure all administrative and reporting requirements are completed accurately and on time.
About you:
To be successful in this role, you'll bring a combination of technical expertise, industry experience, and a proactive approach to safety and performance. Ideally, you will have:
* A degree in Mining Engineering (preferred)
* Proven experience managing coal mining gas drainage programs
* RIIMCU603D – Establish and maintain the gas drainage management plan (highly regarded)
* Supervisor qualifications – S1, S2, S3 & G2
* Minimum 3 years' experience in coal mining, with exposure to gas drainage operations
* Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD
