At the Department of Justice and Community Safety, the Operations Manager will oversee the day‐to‐day operational needs of the Metropolitan Remand Centre.
About the Business Unit
Metropolitan Remand Centre (MRC) is a 954‐bed maximum‐security facility for unsentenced male individuals located within the West Metropolitan Region. The facility contains three mainstream accommodation units, two protection units, two management units, and additional spaces for vulnerable and at‐risk prisoners.
About the Role
The Operations Manager manages high-level operational needs, contributing to strategic planning, implementation and improvement of prison operations. The role includes leadership of custodial and non‐custodial staff, ensuring compliance with Corrections Victoria policies, and coordinating services across the prison.
Responsibilities
* Oversee day‐to‐day operational needs of the prison, including security and compliance.
* Manage a team of custodial and non‐custodial officers delivering correctional services.
* Contribute to strategic planning, implementation and improvement of prison operations in a changing environment.
* Ensure prisoner management and program delivery consistent with Corrections Victoria policies, procedures and priorities.
* Oversee all aspects of prisoner management, ensuring policies and procedures are followed.
* Liaise with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders to address management issues and requirements.
* Coordinate information and services across prison areas and develop and implement new policies and procedures.
* Identify and address issues concerning the prison, prisoners and staff.
* Provide leadership to staff, promoting Corrections Victoria's vision and managing staff in ways that reflect that vision.
* Ensure custodial services delivery and integrate this delivery with education, industry and clinical services.
Qualifications
* Preservice training (or jurisdictional equivalent) or preparedness to complete certain modules of preservice training.
* Custodial Management experience favored but not essential.
* Demonstrated commitment to working with staff, prisoners and other service providers in an integrated, whole‐of‐prison approach to reducing re‐offending.
* Experience or skill in correctional delivery, offender management, OH&S/HR management or offender treatment.
