Project Overview

Bechtel supports Western Australian customers in aviation, defence and energy infrastructure by providing a wide range of project and contract management services. The role is based in and around Perth, working in integrated teams with customers to support capital works programmes and build Bechtel's capability for future opportunities.


Job Summary

The Program Field Engineering Manager reports to the Program Construction Manager and oversees all field engineering activities across multiple projects and associated systems technologies. The role ensures safe, quality‑conforming work and aligns with the capital portfolio management team's performance expectations.


Major Responsibilities

* Coordinate the review of contractor quantity take‑offs, reporting and forecasting.
* Coordinate the reviews of contractor submittals, including reports of contractor progress and performance.
* Actively interface with engineering, health and safety, environment and sustainability, community, workplace relations, contract management and other relevant teams to maintain project delivery priorities.
* Implement assurance programs to monitor contractor work for people and environmental hazards, ensuring risk analysis, health risk assessments and work method statements are in place where required.
* Manage the review of all contractor submittals including construction schedules, management plans, progress reports and changes as required.
* Establish a design/field engineering working relationship and lines of communication with project engineering, agreeing on engineering deliverables.
* Provide technical consultation support to internal stakeholders and review contractors' design for constructability and contract compliance, identifying risk and opportunity.
* Ensure contractor work addresses and eliminates personnel and environmental hazards, with required risk analysis, health risk assessments and work method statements.
* Validate contractor's field engineering program tools and deliverables against contract requirements and consistency across assigned areas.
* Provide technical and program guidance to Program teams for submittal and review processes of contractor documentation including inspection plans, test plans and procedures, factory acceptance testing, component testing and system acceptance testing.
* Identify and resolve program‑wide technical or process issues related to field engineering.
* Ensure contractor execution aligns with contract terms & conditions.


Education & Experience Requirements

Required: Bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8–10 years of relevant experience or 12–14 years of relevant work experience.


Required Knowledge & Skills

* Demonstrated experience managing major infrastructure or aviation projects.
* Knowledge of construction practices, economics, and new design and construction methods.
* High level of interpersonal and communication skills with proven leadership and behavioural change delivery in a large organisation.
* Ability to influence and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders while maintaining commercial awareness.
* Prior delivery partner or client‑side project management experience preferred.
