* VPS 5: $113,022 - $136,747 plus superannuation


About The Business Unit

The Koori Justice Unit (KJU) is a unit within the Aboriginal Justice Group of the Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS), which has been established to help realise a clear vision of a fair and accessible justice system for Aboriginal people.

The KJU is responsible for coordinating the implementation of the Victorian Aboriginal Justice Agreement (AJA) - Burra Lotjpa Dunguludja - currently in its fourth phase (AJA4), in partnership with the Aboriginal community and Victorian government, in line with realising Aboriginal self‑determination.

The AJA has established extensive Government and Community networks through the Aboriginal Justice Forum (AJF), Regional Aboriginal Justice Advisory Committee Network (RAJAC) and the Local Aboriginal Justice Action Committees (LAJAC) and uses them to effectively deliver initiatives including early intervention and prevention programs, diversion initiatives, and rehabilitation and reintegration support.


The Role

The Senior Legal Grants and Policy Officer will undertake grant management and policy functions supporting the administration of government funding (including Commonwealth legal assistance funding) to Aboriginal Community‑Controlled Organisations (ACCOs) delivering justice programs, particularly legal assistance services.

We will work with both internal and external stakeholders to assist with the development of Aboriginal Justice policy positions under the National Aboriginal Justice Program (NAJP). This includes conducting analysis of legislation and legal policies to provide recommendations and engaging with and assisting external stakeholders with implementation plans under the NAJP.


Some Of Your Responsibilities Will Include

* Undertake grant management and implementation functions to support the administration of government funding (including Commonwealth legal assistance funding) for ACCOs delivering justice programs, with a focus on enabling and scaling ACCO‑led legal assistance services.
* Have a demonstrated understanding of the Victorian Government's commitment to Aboriginal self‑determination and be able to identify and deliver measurable outcomes that align with the overarching Aboriginal self‑determination agenda.
* Prepare and manage funding agreements and procurement/tendering processes, in line with Community and Government partnership expectations.


About You

* Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Victorian Aboriginal community and the issues impacting the community.
* Demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with members of the Victorian Aboriginal community.
* Experience with and/or knowledge of the Victorian justice system, Aboriginal legal assistance sector including services being delivered under the NAJP.
* Demonstrated ability to analyse complex operational, policy and/or legal issues, interpret legislation and provide accurate solutions and recommendations.


Qualifications

* A qualification in law, project management, public administration or a related discipline is desirable.
