Your new role
As a Credit Officer, you will be responsible for managing customer accounts to ensure debtor days remain within target levels. You will maintain a clean and well-presented ledger, proactively minimising accounts aged over 60 days through strong credit control practices. This position involves close collaboration with customers, internal departments, and the finance team to ensure prompt and professional credit management.
* Monitor and manage the accounts receivable ledger within budgeted debtor targets
* Follow up on outstanding debts via phone, email, and written correspondence
* Maintain accurate account records and reconciliations
* Work to minimise overdue accounts through consistent collection efforts and escalations
* Build strong relationships with customers and internal stakeholders to resolve disputes efficiently
* Assess the creditworthiness of new and existing customers and recommend credit limit adjustments
* Review and release credit holds following company policies and risk assessments
* Prepare regular reports on collections performance and ageing analysis
* Support month-end and year-end processes, including audit queries and provisions
* Continuously improve credit control procedures and systems
What you'll need to succeed
* Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Bookkeeping, or Finance (Certificate IV or equivalent)
* Proven experience in credit control or collections, preferably in a multi-entity or multi-region environment
* Strong understanding of credit management principles and debtor reporting
* Knowledge of Australian and New Zealand credit practices and legal environments
* Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
* Ability to work independently with strong attention to detail
* Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with ERP/accounting systems (SAP, Oracle, or similar)
* Background in equipment hire, construction, or industrial services is advantageous.
* Exposure to credit risk analysis and credit insurance practices
* Familiarity with FX and multi-currency ledgers
