We are a small academic English tuition centre in Chatswood, specialising in HSC and IB English tuition, as well as undergraduate and postgraduate mentoring in the disciplines of English, World Literature, and Creative Writing. As a result of our long-standing commitment to helping our students’ achieve their academic goals, we have an extensive waitlist for both individual and small group sessions. Our priority is delivering personalised academic guidance that moves beyond generic concepts, supporting students in discovering their personal voice and writing style, one that effectively addresses the demands of their syllabus.
Role Overview:
The casual position is focused on teaching small group and one-to-one classes from Years 7 – 10, with a view to take on senior students on a one-to-one basis.
A program of resource booklets is provided for the small group classes. The one-to-one sessions are guided by the demands of the student’s own school texts and units of work, requiring a flexible approach, drawing on the teacher’s wide body of knowledge and experience. The teaching hours available are determined by the number of students and classes, and the needs of the centre. While we have an extensive waitlist resource to draw on, we have discerning parents and students who require proven success.
The number of teaching hours available for each teacher evolve over time. While teachers may start with a couple of hours, the potential number available can be unlimited due to the substantial number of enquiries that arrive each week. 95% of our enquiries are from word of mouth referrals, a testament to our considered and effective teaching pedagogy.
What We’re Looking For:
Our centre is known for its exceptional quality of teaching. We are looking for postgraduate qualified teachers or scholars who have specialised in English or English education. Experience teaching high school students is preferred, whether in a private tuition setting or a more formalised setting, and a lively and engaging personal manner is vital in order to sustain the interest of the younger students.
A compassionate attitude and genuine interest in the well-being of students is required. Thorough knowledge of the Australian curriculum and the HSC is preferred, although training and supervision will be provided. The ability to offer a stable commitment is key, as we aim to offer our students consistency.
This position involves child-related work. As such, you are required to apply for and obtain a Working with Children Check clearance in accordance with the Child Protection (Working with Children) Act 2012.
An ABN is required, as the position is for an independent contractor.
What We Offer:
The lessons take place on-campus at our Chatswood offices, and working hours can be designed in consultation with the teacher. The generous hourly teaching rate takes into account email support and reasonable marking and feedback for students between lessons. The fee structure varies, increasing with a move from individual students to micro classes to account for the extra feedback time. Marking support for small group classes is provided.
Our small team is collegial and supportive, sharing resources and ideas, and very willing to offer help and guidance. Teacher retention is extremely high, a testament to the compassionate climate of our work environment.
