We are currently seeking an experienced Utilities Service Locator to join our client Sydney. In this role, you will collaborate with consulting engineers/scientists to facilitate geotechnical and environmental investigations, as well as locating underground services in a skilled, systematic, and methodical manner for borehole drilling and test pit excavations. This will involve ensuring that proposed test locations are free from overhead services and structures.
Reporting to the Geotechnical Manager, you will closely liaise with Section Managers and members of various sections including Geotechnical, Geophysics, Environmental, and Rock Mechanics. There will be opportunities to engage in consulting and investigation work across these sections, as well as soil testing in our Earthworks laboratory. You will be provided with a company ute to ensure the productive performance of your duties.
Key Responsibilities
* Locating underground utilities prior to fieldwork activities using electromagnetic and ground penetrating radar (GPR) equipment.
* Gathering coordinates and levels using differential global positioning system (dGPS) equipment.
* Conducting survey levelling using optical and laser levels.
* Assisting field staff with testing on job sites.
* Coordinating subcontractors engaged for underground utilities location, including vacuum extraction.
* Adhering to strict Work Health and Safety (WHS) requirements.
* Maintaining equipment.
About You
* A valid Australian Driver's Licence.
* Telstra/Dial-Before-You-Dig accreditation. Current 2016 accreditation preferred but not essential.
* Minimum 2 years of experience in locating underground utilities.
* Experience with dGPS and survey levelling equipment preferred.
* Practical skills in maintaining field and electronic equipment.
* Ability to work effectively in a team workplace.
* Excellent attention to detail.
* A friendly, positive, and enthusiastic attitude with a "can-do" approach.
* Honesty and trustworthiness.
* Understanding of the importance of operating within Work Health and Safety (WHS), Environmental Management, and Quality Assurance (QA) systems.
