The Role
The Head of Learning Area – Humanities and Social Sciences (HoLA – HASS) is a key leadership role that supports the school’s vision of quality teaching and learning to drive success, and connection to inspire growth. This position is suitable for a passionate and knowledgeable educator who can lead a dynamic team of teachers in delivering high-quality, inclusive, and future-focused learning programs aligned with the Western Australian Curriculum and the school’s strategic direction as outlined in the Gilmore College Business Plan. The role focuses on fostering a strong, positive and professional learning culture within the HASS learning area, implementing high-quality Teaching and Learning practices aligned to the Department of Education’s Teaching for Impact document, and cultivating respectful and supportive relationships with staff and students. It includes leading the collection, analysis and interpretation of achievement data to inform planning and program improvement, supporting staff in developing data literacy, and ensuring evidence-based explicit teaching strategies are embedded in daily teaching. Curriculum leadership is a core responsibility, requiring content knowledge and familiarity with the WA Curriculum, School Curriculum and Standards Authority requirements, and A-TARA, General, and Vocational Education and Training pathways. The HoLA will oversee curriculum development, assessment and reporting processes, resource and cost centre management, and behaviour management support, while collaborating with the leadership team on whole‑school planning, policy implementation and improvement initiatives.
