About the Role
The Production Coordinator supports the Operations Manager in overseeing daily manufacturing operations within a metal fabrication environment. This role ensures efficient, safe and high-quality production of metal components or assemblies while helping drive continuous improvement, cost-control and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
* Assist in the planning and execution of daily/weekly production schedules to meet output, quality and delivery targets.
* Supervise production staff: provide direction, monitor performance, support training and development.
* Monitor machine/plant performance and coordinate maintenance/repairs to minimise downtime.
* Ensure adherence to safety, health (WHS), environmental and regulatory standards in the workshop / factory.
* Drive continuous improvement initiatives (lean manufacturing, 5S, waste reduction, cycle time improvements) to enhance productivity and efficiency.
* Collaborate with quality, logistics/warehouse, materials planning and maintenance teams to ensure smooth production flow and on-time delivery.
* Report key KPIs: output, scrap/rework rates, downtime, labour utilisation, quality rejects. Analyse data and recommend corrective actions.
* Assist with budget control: labour, materials, overtime, tooling and equipment utilisation.
* Support implementation of standard operating procedures (SOPs), training materials and work instructions.
* Participate in incident/accident investigations, root cause analysis and corrective action plans.
* Contribute to staffing and scheduling decisions; assist in recruitment, onboarding and performance reviews for production personnel.
Qualifications & Experience
* Minimum of 3-5 years' supervisory experience in a manufacturing/metal fabrication environment; preferably 5+ years depending on scale of operation.
* Sound understanding of metal manufacturing and equipment.
* Knowledge of WHS (Work Health & Safety) practices.
* Experience with production planning, scheduling tools.
* Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage and motivate a diverse production team.
* Good analytical skills and proven ability to use data to drive improvement.
* Excellent communication skills (verbal & written) and ability to engage cross-functionally (production, quality, maintenance, supply chain).
* Hands-on, results-driven, and comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
