Senior Associate Analyst, Metals, Mining & Energy Sector – Equities Research – Sydney based

Our client is an award-winning institutional brokerage and investment group. Renowned for presenting differentiated investment ideas. This well regarded research team provide extensive research coverage across of ASX -listed companies in the Resources and Energy sector. On a daily basis you will help perform valuations that ultimately underpin stock recommendations through analysis, financial modelling and company/industry insights.
We are looking for a senior mining associate to provide who will be responsible for providing support to the resources research team and look to pick up stock coverage in time. You will be responsible for coordinating research activities (e.g., compiling research for daily packs, updating models and helping to arrange industry meetings) and working with a senior team on research projects and client requests.
The successful candidate will help prepare presentations and marketing materials to various stakeholders including our clients external fund manager clients and also to the internal Institutional Research sales and trading team. The analyst must be able to balance multifaceted commodity market fundamentals, technical engineering data and complex commercial and financial relationships to provide a view on equity pricing. The candidate would be responsible for developing and maintaining financial models, valuation databases for stocks under primary coverage as well as support the writing of investment product, including company, sector and thematic reports. We would encourage those applicants from an industry background such as mining, energy, utilities to apply. Candidates who have a combination of the following skillsets are encouraged to apply.
* Bachelor's degree or above in business, commerce or a mining technical related discipline (such as geology or engineering), preferably with a finance and/or accounting specialisation.
* 2-5 years' experience as a research associate/analyst or alternatively a relevant industry, funds management or finance/accounting background would be considered with requisite demonstration of key modelling skills
* CFA or MBA an advantage, but not essential.
* Strong analytical, excel and financial modelling skills
* Excellent interpersonal sensitivity, excellent communication, relationship, and management skills
