Your new company
Our client is a major operator within the mining and heavy industry sector, supporting large scale operations across Queensland and the Northern Territory. With an immediate requirement due to increased operational demand, they are seeking an experienced Senior Category Manager to join their team on an initial 3 to 6-month contract, with strong potential for extension. Ideally, you will be based in Brisbane or Cairns to effectively support regional operations.
Your new role
As the Senior Category Manager, you will play a critical role in delivering operation focused OPEX procurement outcomes across multiple sites. You will partner closely with operational leaders, project teams, and management consultants to drive commercial value, ensure continuity of supply, and support strategic procurement initiatives. Your responsibilities will include:
Developing and executing category management strategies aligned to operational needs.
Managing end-to-end OPEX procurement activities within mining and heavy industry environments.
Leading and supporting project management activities across procurement workstreams.
Driving accelerated cost reduction initiatives and identifying commercial optimisation opportunities.
Collaborating with management consulting teams to deliver transformation or improvement programs.
Engaging and challenging operational stakeholders to ensure clarity of requirements and strong commercial outcomes.
Working with agility and pace to meet operational deadlines and shifting priorities.
Utilising Ariba and SAP ECC to manage procurement processes, reporting, and compliance.
What you'll need to succeed
To be successful, you will bring:
Experience in mining or heavy industry, with a strong focus on operational OPEX procurement.
Demonstrated capability in project management and delivering procurement outcomes in fast moving environments.
Experience in category strategy development and commercial analysis.
Exposure to cost reduction programs (highly regarded).
Experience working alongside or within management consulting teams (preferred).
Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the confidence to challenge and influence.
Ability to operate with speed, agility, and autonomy.
Proficiency with Ariba and SAP ECC.
Ability to travel to a mine site based in remote Queensland.
