About this role


We are seeking an Environmental Social Scientist to join our growing team. This role is suited to someone with years of experience (consulting, research or public sector) who is motivated by shaping positive social and environmental outcomes.

You will work across projects that explore how people value and interact with natural places and systems; how community prepare for, respond to and are impacted by climate hazards, and support collaborative planning, monitoring and evaluation; and help people, communities and governments.

This is a senior role with opportunities to lead projects, bring in new clients and support research and project delivery across Mosaic Insights and the broader Alluvium Group.

What you will be doing in this role

You will work collaboratively across the Mosaic Insights and Alluvium Group to:

* Support the Mosaic Insights business in Southeast Queensland as well as others across Melbourne and Sydney and at times internationally
* Provide social science expertise across: research methods, qualitative and quantitative data analysis, monitoring and evaluation frameworks, social impact assessment, policy analysis, strategy and program development, stakeholder engagement and communications, climate risk assessments
* Work with leading applied scientists, ecologists, economists and engineers across the Alluvium Group and our partners on climate change, adaptation/ resilience and environmental projects that directly affect the future of our urban and rural communities and environments.
* Help to shape and grow our climate – health, city shaping and data science services and build on our existing portfolio of social science work in public health and natural resource management
* Help build our company's profile as leaders in the application of social science in developing healthy and sustainable urban and rural landscapes
* Contribute to the delivery of projects on time, on budget and to the satisfaction of our clients
* Contribute to the efficient and effective running of the Mosaic Insights business


Skills and Experience


Professional Experience

* 15+ years relevant experience in consulting, research, government, not-for-profit, or similar professional environment
* Experience applying social science in real-world environmental, climate, health, planning, or community contexts

Skills and capabilities

* Tertiary qualifications in social science or closely related disciplines
* Strong qualitative research skills (interviewing, coding, thematic synthesis, narrative analysis) and/or quantitative research skills (survey design, statistical analysis, segmentation)
* Confident communicator with the ability to communicate complex ideas clearly (written and verbal form)
* Comfortable working in multidisciplinary teams and engaging with diverse stakeholders
* Demonstrated initiative and drive and ability to work in time pressured environments
* An eagerness to help build our social science area of practice
* Willing to travel interstate and to regional areas for short periods (when permitted)
* Able to legally work in Australia (we will not consider applicants who require visa sponsorship)

Desirable

* Knowledge of environmental policy, water management, biodiversity, conservation or climate adaptation
* Understanding of Traditional Owner engagement principles and practice
* Familiarity with R, SPSS, Qualtrics, NVivo, ArcGIS/QGIS, or PowerBI
