About RCH Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH) has been providing paediatrics and adolescent health services for over 150 years. It offers a full range of paediatric and adolescent health services, including tertiary and quaternary care for critically ill and medically complex patients across Victoria, Tasmania, southern NSW and other states. RCH supports a workforce of more than 6,000 staff, with 12 wards and 350 beds, and sees over 300,000 specialist clinic appointments and 90,000 emergency presentations annually.

Role Summary Consultant Gastroenterologist (Paediatric Liver & Transplantation) – to fill 6 ongoing vacant sessions. Sessions are available from 6/7/2026 with up to a 0.5 EFT for new appointments or top‑up for existing full‑time consultants. Duties include inpatient and outpatient care (clinics) and on‑call responsibilities, negotiated with the Head of Department.

Responsibilities You will provide clinical care to paediatric patients with a full range of liver conditions, including complex tertiary level liver and intestinal transplantation, as well as general paediatric gastroenterology disorders. You will also contribute to inpatient and outpatient services (on‑campus and telehealth), an on‑call service, and collaborate with other services to develop a patient‑centred, standardised and sustainable model of care. In addition you will support existing research collaborations and opportunities to initiate new research.

Clinical management of the full range of outpatient and inpatient liver conditions, including liver and intestinal transplantation.

Clinical management of all gastroenterology inpatients and consults while on inpatient ward service.

Provision of safe and efficacious diagnostic and interventional procedures.

Contribute to the development of models of clinical care for gastroenterological conditions to enhance quality of care whilst maximising efficient use of resources.

Effective communication with other healthcare providers and consumers, including paediatricians, family practitioners, junior and senior medical staff, nursing, paramedical, clerical staff, families and patients.

Administration and leadership roles in the department.

Skills and Experience

Fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP or eligible for FRACP).

Mandatory fellowship training in Paediatric Gastroenterology.

Postgraduate training and experience in paediatric liver and liver/intestinal transplantation.

Capacity to work harmoniously and collaboratively within a team.

Specialist Medical Registration with AHPRA.

Well‑developed interpersonal and communication skills.

Selection Criteria

Postgraduate training and experience in paediatric gastroenterology, especially in paediatric liver/liver transplantation.

Training in Paediatric Gastrointestinal Endoscopy approved by the Conjoint Committee.

Ability to effectively interact with colleagues, patients and families, and build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Flexible attitude to balance competing priorities.

Demonstrated efficient time management.

Research qualification (PhD, MD or Masters in Medicine) is desirable.
