About the Role

Our organization is seeking a skilled Community Mental Health Practitioner to join our team in Townsville. As a Community Mental Health Practitioner, you will play a vital role in supporting young people aged 16-21 who are recovering from a disability associated with a psychiatric condition.

You will work collaboratively with clients, families, and carers to help service users return to their place of residence and a meaningful life, using a staged approach to recovery through one-to-one support, shared supports, workshops, and group work facilitation.

This is a permanent, part-time opportunity (30 hours per week) that requires flexibility to commit to a rotating roster, including AM, PM, and sleep over shifts.


Key Responsibilities

* Purposefully engage with clients using techniques such as brief intervention, motivational interviewing, coaching, family inclusive practice, trauma-informed practice, and conflict resolution.
* Plan and develop group work programs that assist clients to build their skills, focus on their recovery, and work towards transitioning back to their natural community.
* Support family and carer roles by understanding their concerns and providing information, education, and referrals.
* Maintain or create referral pathways to ensure access to local supports for clients.


Requirements

* Tertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate IV) in mental health, peer work, psychology, social work, occupational therapy, or other relevant health-related fields.
* Current First Aid and CPR certifications.
* Proven experience in youth work, community services, mental health, disability, social welfare, housing, or healthcare sectors.
* Ability to assess need and work collaboratively to plan goal-focused recovery using evidence-informed approaches and tools.
* Skills and experience in advocacy, collaboration, facilitation, evaluation, and problem-solving.
