As a Workplace Lawyer you will undertake the range of legal matters handled by legal officers within Crown Law. You will also assist senior officers in the conduct of more complex legal matters handled within Crown Law.
The areas of law handled by a Lawyer within the Workplace Law Team includes:
- Labour law (70% of the workload)
- Law and procedures in relation to public sector employment
- Conduct of, and advice on, matters in the State Industrial Relations system
- Conduct of, and advice on, matters in the Federal Industrial Relations system
- Conduct of, and advice on, Anti-Discrimination matters in State and Federal jurisdictions
- Conduct of, and advice on, the review of decisions by WorkCover and the Regulator.
- Administrative law (20% of the workload)
- Law and procedures involving questions of administrative law
- Written and oral advice on interpretation of statutes and subordinate legislation.
- Other areas of law (10% of the workload)
- Written and oral advice on other areas of law as required.
Your key responsibilities
- Undertake the range of legal matters handled by legal officers within Crown Law.
- Assist senior officers in the conduct of more complex legal matters handled within Crown Law.
- Conduct a skilled legal practice and undertake the range of legal work undertaken by the Workplace Law Team.
- Assist in
- the provision of legal training to officers of client Departments
- the provision of legal training to officers of Crown Law
- the provision of advice and guidance on questions of law and practice to more junior officers within Crown Law
- the provision of clear and succinct written communication in a variety of settings and styles
- the conduct of the more complex matters handled by legal officers within Crown Law. In providing this support it is anticipated that limited supervision will be provided.
- Participate in and maintain a proactive approach to self-development, including:
- achievement of CPD points
- participation in Crown Law's performance management framework and any feedback processes.
- Comply at all times with the office standards, including:
- the Client Service Charter
- the requirement to meet set targets for billable hours
- quality and timeliness measures
- Quality Assurance framework.
