The Y Canberra Region (formally known as YMCA of Canberra Ltd) is a local not-for-profit organisation. Our vision is simple: help children and young people thrive in a connected community. This is an exciting time for the Y Canberra Region as we look to consolidate our commercial operations and expand programs that will make a positive impact on the lives of young people.
The Y Canberra Region has been part of the Canberra community since 1941, growing side by side with local people, families, youth and community. The Y Canberra Region is committed to empowering and inspiring young people through providing quality programs across children's services, fitness and recreation, and accommodation.

About The Position
We are seeking 4 new members to work alongside our existing 6 Youth Representative Group members. The people we are seeking will further strengthen and contribute actively to a full range of youth matters.
The YRG Has 3 Main Focuses Of Development
* Personal Development
* Community Development
* Organisational Development
Objectives, Roles And Opportunities
* Advocating for the inclusion and engagement of young people.
* Advisory to the Board Directors, Senior Leadership Team and the Y Canberra Region CEO on projects, programs and strategies that impact young people.
* Provide advice and recommendations to the Directors on the adoption of strategies, projects and programs to impact young people.
* Engaging participation of volunteering opportunities with sporting, arts, school, and community groups.
* Opportunity to become a mentor for peers, young people and vulnerable community members in need.
* Opportunity to represent the Y and network at events, festivals and conferences.
* Opportunity to connect with the broader Y network, youth representatives, and youth networks.
* Ability to contribute to the design of social media content, merchandise, and participant in digital marketing and advocacy.
* Opportunity to participate in the YMCA World Council.
* Access to mentoring opportunities via the CEO, Y Board and Y Network to be inspired by prominent Australians in diverse fields, including arts, politics, business, community and sporting fields.
* Opportunities to develop programs, initiatives and events for the community.
* Personal allocated budget for Learning and Development
* Opportunity to advise on organisation strategy.
* Engaging with key Senior Leadership to advise on organisation decisions.
* Performing advisory duties of the committee as a voice of young people.
* Facilitate intergenerational leadership in YMCA Canberra.
Your Commitment
Our YRG meets in person monthly throughout the year with a requirement to attend 9/12 of these meetings, as well as a contribution of at least five hours per month.
YRG members are appointed for a three-year term.
Remuneration and Reimbursement
This is a voluntary position and will not be remunerated.
YRG members are allocated an annual allowance of $1,000 for costs associated with professional development and training activities, which includes (where appropriate) travel, accommodation and out-of-pocket expenses.
Key Selection Criteria
YRG members do not need any prior knowledge or experience to apply for the role. The Y will develop and provide opportunities for Learning and Development.

Safeguarding
The Y Canberra Region is Safeguarding accredited by the Australian Childhood Foundation and meets the Safeguarding Licensing Standards of Y National covering areas such as recruitment, training and building a safeguarding culture.
At the Y Canberra Region, we are committed to empowering all children and young people to feel safe and be safe, at the Y, in their families, and in their communities. As such, we require successful candidates to be appropriately screened (including police checks) and obtain a Working With Vulnerable People card to ensure the right people are in the right roles.
Any successfully appointed Director will also be required to adhere to the Y Canberra Region's Safeguarding Children and Young People framework and complete Safeguarding Children and Young People training requirements.
