Are you a seasoned IT Project Manager ready to lead a high-impact software modernisation initiative? We're seeking an experienced Application Project Manager to oversee the development and enhancement of a nationally significant environmental modelling system.
Start Date: Monday, 22 September 2025
Contract Duration: 12 months (with up to 2 x 12-month extensions)
Location: ACT, NT, SA, TAS, VIC, WA
Work Arrangement: Hybrid (minimum 40% in-office, flexible remote options available)
Security Clearance: Baseline
Hours: Up to 40 hours per week
Level: EL1 equivalent
About the Role
You'll lead a diverse team of developers, scientists, geospatial experts, and IT professionals to modernise a complex software suite used to estimate greenhouse gas emissions from Australia's land sector. This system plays a vital role in national carbon accounting and environmental reporting.
Your responsibilities will include:
* Managing multi-disciplinary IT project teams across remote and in-office settings
* Leading development and enhancement of internally and externally facing applications
* Translating business requirements into actionable software improvements
* Overseeing delivery schedules, DevOps workflows, and technical issue resolution
* Conducting planning and performance reviews for development staff
* Managing budgets, procurement, and risk mitigation strategies
* Representing project needs within enterprise IT governance frameworks
* Collaborating with ICT teams to maintain and evolve cloud-based platforms
* Contributing to strategic planning and funding proposals
Key Skills & Experience
Essential Criteria:
* Proven experience managing multi-disciplinary IT teams (30%)
* Ability to perform under pressure and meet strict deadlines (20%)
* Experience working within enterprise-wide systems and architectures (20%)
* Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills (15%)
* Ability to translate technical challenges into executive-level insights (15%)
Desirable Criteria:
* Experience with geospatial data (e.g., complex 3D arrays) in applications (50%)
* Experience modernising legacy applications to cloud environments (50%)
Technical Background
Candidates should hold a degree or diploma in ICT, data science, or a scientific discipline (e.g., statistics, GIS, remote sensing), or demonstrate equivalent professional experience in spatial or data-focused roles.
About the Team
Join a dynamic Modelling and Geospatial team responsible for developing and maintaining Australia's Full Carbon Accounting Model (FullCAM). The team integrates spatial datasets, climate data, and satellite imagery to support national carbon reporting and environmental analysis.
