Head of School – Computing and Information Systems
The University of Melbourne is a leading research and teaching institution recognised for its academic excellence and global impact. This leadership role will guide the School of Computing and Information Systems, an internationally renowned school at the forefront of artificial intelligence, computer science, data science and information systems.
Reporting to the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology, the Head of School provides strategic, academic and operational leadership for the School of Computing and Information Systems and is a key member of the Faculty Executive.
Key Accountabilities
* Set and deliver the School’s strategic vision and manage resources and budget.
* Ensure operational excellence across people, health and safety, and equity and diversity.
* Drive organisational and cultural change.
* Strengthen national and international partnerships, enhance industry engagement, and position the School to respond to emerging opportunities.
* Build on existing strengths while shaping the next phase of growth and innovation in computing and information systems.
About You
* A PhD in a relevant discipline and current appointment at Professorial level (or equivalent standing).
* An outstanding international reputation and leadership in a field aligned with the School, with demonstrated research impact.
* A distinguished track record of excellence in research and education.
* Proven leadership experience in managing large and complex academic teams and environments.
* Demonstrated ability to inspire others and successfully implement strategic priorities.
* Experience cultivating a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performance culture across research, education and engagement.
* Strong capability in driving organisational and cultural change.
* Proven success in establishing impactful national and international partnerships across academia, industry and government.
* Demonstrated operational and financial management experience, including oversight of budgets and resources.
* Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence, engage and build trust across diverse stakeholders.
* Sound judgement and integrity, with the ability to navigate complex organisational environments.
Desirable
* Understanding of technological, regulatory and societal trends shaping the future of computing and higher education.
* Knowledge of national and international innovation ecosystems and the higher education sector.
