In this role, you'll gain hands-on experience and receive guidance from experienced professionals as you support key areas such as: 
- Permit Assessments & Approvals 
- Statutory Registrations & Compliance 
- Building Maintenance and Enforcement 
Work type: 2 year fixed-term contract 
Classification: Band 4 Commencing at $73,796 pa plus super 
Key responsibilities 
- Deliver clear, helpful advice to customers, Council teams, and authorities to resolve building-related enquiries. 
- Support team leaders in executing key Building Services activities. 
- Champion innovation and best practices to boost customer and community satisfaction. 
- Assist the Municipal Building Surveyor (or delegate) in implementing Part 8 of the Building Act. 
- Help assess building permit applications and Council report/consent requests — guiding customers through the process to ensure timely, compliant outcomes. 
- Contribute to daily operations across Permits, Registrations, Compliance, and Customer Service — meeting deadlines and service standards. 
- Join the emergency on-call roster when required, with appropriate support and supervision. 
About you 
To be successful in this role, you will be studying or have recently completed a Building Surveying qualification which is recognised by the Building & Plumbing Commission, such as Bachelor of Building Surveying, Advanced Diploma of Building Surveying. In addition, you will possess a current and valid driving licence. 
- Demonstrated knowledge of building legislation, including the Building Act 1993, Building Regulations 2018, Building Code of Australia, and relevant Australian Standards 
- Proficient computer skills, including MS Office Suite and database management. 
- Strong people skills with the ability to influence, collaborate, and build positive stakeholder relationships 
- Clear and confident communicator — both written and verbal 
- Eagerness to grow and sharpen stakeholder engagement skills 
- Highly organised with strong time management and planning abilities 
- Flexible team player who can also work independently when needed 
Preferred candidates will be required to undergo a National Police Check and Working with Children\'s Check (funded by the City).
