A senior opportunity has become available for an experienced Environmental Approvals specialist to take on a leadership role within a growing Western Australian team. This position combines deep technical work with strategic influence, high-level stakeholder engagement, and collaboration across multidisciplinary technical teams.
The role is ideal for someone who enjoys shaping capability, developing people, and driving high-quality approvals outcomes across a broad range of complex projects.
About the Role
This is a permanent senior appointment reporting directly into the business' Regional Executive for Environmental Approvals. You will play a key role in strengthening the capability of the WA Approvals function, which is currently in a growth and development phase.
You will work closely with State Leads, Technical Directors, and subject matter experts across Australia to provide approvals leadership, technical direction, and strategic guidance.
You will be involved in approvals across a diverse mix of project types, including (but not limited to):
* Resource and major project infrastructure
* Renewable energy developments
* Transport and linear infrastructure
* Water, utilities, and essential service upgrades
* Broader land-use planning and complex environmental impact assessments
Key Responsibilities
* Lead environmental approvals processes for complex, multi-stakeholder projects.
* Provide senior technical direction on environmental impact assessment, risk analysis and approvals pathways.
* Manage stakeholder engagement with regulators, landholders, community groups and Indigenous stakeholders.
* Prepare and review high-level reports, submissions, and executive briefings.
* Mentor and support a growing WA-based approvals team.
* Collaborate with senior leaders nationally to align policy interpretation and best-practice methodologies.
* Coordinate multidisciplinary teams to ensure robust, compliant, and practical environmental outcomes.
Skills & Experience
The ideal candidate will bring:
* 15+ years' experience
within an environmental consultancy environment, ideally with strong exposure to WA approvals work.
* Extensive experience in environmental approvals, regulatory compliance, or senior-level environmental management.
* Demonstrated ability to lead approvals for complex projects with multiple stakeholders.
* Deep understanding of environmental legislation, approvals frameworks, and regulatory processes across WA, national, and applicable international standards.
* Expertise in environmental impact assessments, risk evaluation, and regulatory submission requirements.
* Exceptional communication skills, including preparing executive-level reports and presenting to senior stakeholders.
* Demonstrated cultural competency, particularly in working with Indigenous groups and diverse community stakeholders.
