About the Opportunity
All applicants must be currently enrolled students at the University of Sydney and hold an active USU membership for the duration of the appointment.
As a 7‐person Paid Editorial Team, You Will
* Edit, design and produce six high‐quality print magazines (three per semester)
* Create engaging content for PULP's digital platforms and social channels
* Shape the creative direction of one of USYD's most iconic student publications
* Build real‐world experience in publishing, media, events and content strategy
Roles Available
* 1 x Editorial LeadThe Editorial Lead plays a key coordination role within the team, guiding publication timelines, supporting creative direction, and ensuring quality and consistency across each issue.
* 6 x EditorsEach Editor holds the dual portfolio of Magazine Editor plus one of the following:
o Digital Portfolio (3 roles)
o Events and Engagement Portfolio (1 role)
o Design Portfolio (2 roles)
Key Responsibilities
* Contribute to the production of six high‐quality print publications
* Meet all editorial and production deadlines
* Ensure work is factually accurate, polished, and aligned to PULP's style guide
* Participate in key USU events and build collaborations across campus
* Contribute to audience growth across print, web and social platforms
* Complete administrative tasks including fact‐checking, proofing, uploading and packaging files
Essential Criteria
* Demonstrated experience in writing for different styles and audiences
* Strong attention to detail and editorial accuracy
* Ability to collaborate effectively and meet deadlines
* Interest in editing, publishing, digital media, events and/or design
* Knowledge of Australian arts, culture, and/or student media
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* High level of cultural competence
* Current USYD enrolment and active USU membership
* Eligibility to work in Australia
Hours of Work
10 hours per week, May 2026 - 29 May 2027 (Exact commencement date to be confirmed following recruitment).
The Pay
Editorial Lead: $37.68 per hour + 12% superannuation
Editor role: $35.67 per hour + 12% superannuation

* 4 March, 6pmJob Information Night @ PULP Office, Wentworth Building, Level 1/G01 City Rd (the Pulp Office). Come meet the current editorial team, learn more about the roles, and connect with other students looking to form a team for 2026/2027. We'll also run a short pitch workshop to help you prepare a strong application.
* 13 March (approximate date)Issue 26 Launch Event @ location TBC. Celebrate the launch of Issue 26 and connect with like‐minded creatives. This event is a great opportunity to meet potential teammates and speak with the current PULP team about the application process.
* 18 March, 10am-3pmJob Information Drop In Day @ PULP Office, Wentworth Building, Level 1/G01 City Rd Office. Drop in to the PULP office and speak with members of the editorial team and get advice on how to apply.

Creative Task
TOGETHER, produce 1 mock magazine containing 6 pages total:
* 1 front cover
* 2‐page spread with text
* 2‐page spread with visual article
* 1 back cover
And a 1‐minute video suitable for a PULP digital platform (examples: reel, vox‐pop, 'PULP visits').
Interviews
Applicants must be available for face‐to‐face interviews in April 2026. These times are subject to change.
