Primary objective
As part of a team provide quality professional secretarial and paralegal support services to the Solicitor for the Northern Territory.
Context statement
This position provides dedicated paralegal and administrative support assistance to the Domestic Violence team who represents
NT Police in Court in relation to domestic violence applications.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide high quality paralegal and administrative support service to legal officers located in the Division, including the
preparation and formatting of court documents and general correspondence, compiling briefs and as required attendance at
Court.
1. First point of contact in relation to domestic violence matters, including respond to telephone enquiries, liaising with applicants
and relevant stakeholders in a professional manner.
1. Compile Domestic Violence applications for court, liaise with stakeholders to obtain further evidence or clarification of details
in support of court applications.
1. Register a range of incoming and outgoing documents using a records management system.
2. Manage a range of concurrent activities in a timely and efficient manner, with minimum supervision, ensuring that deadlines
are adhered to.
1. Undertaking searches and completing due diligence tasks as required.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Proven ability to provide a high level of administrative assistance to a professional team using initiative, drive, and energy.
1. Advanced word processing skills to create and format documents together with proficiency in a range of relevant computer
software applications including experience in document and file management using TRIM or other electronic record
management packages.
1. Knowledge of legal document preparation, and an understanding of legal terminology, procedures and processes or ability to
quickly acquire such skills.
1. Demonstrated experience in preparing routine correspondence and conducting information searches.
2. Sound organisational skills and capacity to work under pressure, with a proven ability to determine workload priorities and meet
stringent deadlines.
1. Professional and courteous communication skills with the ability to interact with members of the public and stakeholders.
2. Ability to work with minimum supervision, work autonomously and part of a professional team.
3. High standards of integrity, sound professional ethics and ability to deal with confidential and sensitive information.
Desirable
1. Experience as a paralegal, legal secretary, or other law related position.
1. A certificate in Legal Studies or studying towards a degree in law or similar.
