About the Role
We are seeking a motivated and reliable Canteen Manager who will be responsible for the overall management, operation, and development of the school canteen. This includes food preparation, financial management, staff/volunteer supervision, stock control, and ensuring compliance with food safety and hygiene standards. The role supports the school's mission by contributing positively to the school community and promoting values consistent with its Christian ethos.
Hours: 30.5 hours/week term-time
Key Responsibilities
* Operational Management
*
o Oversee daily canteen operations (opening, service, closing).
o Prepare and serve food at recess and lunch.
o Ensure canteen facilities are clean, safe, and well-maintained.
o Maintain high standards of food hygiene, safety and cleanliness in compliance with NSW Food Authority requirements. Ensure staff have attained the qualifications.
* Financial Oversight
*
o Monitor and manage canteen income and expenditure.
o Develop a sound knowledge of Munch Monitor (online ordering system)
o Conduct daily financial reconciliations (takings, cash handling).
o Develop and ensure the menu is well balance and is appropriately priced.
o Report regularly to the Operations Manager if there are any issues
* Stock & Procurement
*
o Order food, supplies and equipment; maintain appropriate stock levels.
o Negotiate with suppliers to ensure value for money.
o Minimise wastage through effective stock rotation and forecasting.
* Leadership & People Management
*
o Manage, train, supervise, and roster staff and volunteers (parents, students, or other community members).
o Foster a positive, respectful and collaborative environment among staff and volunteers.
o Provide opportunities for ongoing training on food handling and customer service.
* Health & Safety
*
o Ensure compliance with Work Health & Safety (WHS) policies in the canteen.
o Maintain and enforce food safety protocols.
o Conduct regular risk assessments (equipment, hygiene, etc.).
* Community & Culture
*
o Model and uphold the school's Christian values in daily interactions and the canteen environment.
o Support school events by providing catering as needed (e.g. school functions, special meetings, etc).
* Administration & Reporting
*
o Maintain accurate records (menus, stock, volunteers, financials).
o Develop and review canteen policies and procedures; update when necessary with Operations Manager.
Selection Criteria
The ideal candidate will:
* Have an active Christian faith with regular involvement in a local church, and a commitment to the mission, vision, and values of WCCS, including the Statement of Faith.
* Will possess outstanding communication and interpersonal skills as your work will involve interaction with Staff, Students, Parents, Suppliers and Contractors.
* Relevant qualification (e.g. Food Safety Supervisor)
* Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team.
* Previous experience in a school or similar environment.
* Possess experience within the Food / Catering / Hospitality
* Will need to provide a current Working with Children Number.
