Overview
Darwin – dnata catering & retail, Australia's premier inflight catering and retail partner, is seeking a Food Safety, Compliance and Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) professional for our Darwin Airport facility.
This multi-faceted role maintains compliance, audit functions and reporting across Food Safety & Compliance and HSE, supporting the Unit Manager and national Quality Assurance and HSE leads.
We are part of the Emirates Group, with a countrywide footprint across 10 cities, 4,500+ professionals, and over 64 million meals produced annually.
What does a typical day look like?
You will be responsible for the entire framework and function of both Food Safety and HSE as it pertains to daily operations within our Darwin Airport facility.
The role is hands-on and requires a diligent individual who can walk the floor, communicate, liaise and train staff on all aspects of hygiene, food handling, HACCP, hazard identification and key WH&S techniques, guidelines and responsibilities.
The role will manage all audits (internal & external) and reporting for compliance purposes for the Darwin unit and support the Unit Manager with goals outlined by the national GMs of Quality Assurance and HSE.
Responsibilities
In a nutshell, your main responsibilities include but not limited to:
Food Safety & Compliance
Conduct ad hoc and scheduled internal Food Safety/ HACCP and supplier audits
Record all findings from Compliance audits, report back to the GM Quality Assurance, Unit Manager and relevant Team Leaders with the results, ensuring agreed actions and remedies are documented/ delivered to address findings
Assist in conducting relevant sections of the induction process, to ensure all staff are inducted in accordance with Company and legislative requirements
Provide specialist Food Safety/ HACCP, Halal advice to external/internal stakeholders
Investigate, report, and analyse customer complaints, including food poisoning allegations and other safety investigations and supplier non-conformances
Maintain current knowledge of all State and Federal Food Safety legislations (Acts, Regulations, and Compliance Codes) by accessing regular updates, attending relevant industry seminars and networking
Report and identify areas of improvement or performance gaps to address financial or operational risks associated with non-compliance in Food Safety/ HACCP, Halal and Environmental matters
Coordinate microbiological testing program and analysis of results
Provide advice, support and hands-on training to develop skills and team confidence to effectively manage Food Safety/ HACCP and risk prevention
Health Safety & Environmental
Proactively promote a 'Safety First' culture, leading by example
Ensure signs and helpful tips are visible throughout the site to prompt proper practices
Assist with identifying and delivering safety and environmental improvement plans
Identify, mitigate and investigate safety and environmental hazards and incidents; report in accordance with relevant standards and legislation
Monitor health safety and environmental performance, including working with external auditors and conducting internal audits and safety inspections to ensure compliance and continual improvement
Support induction of new staff with safety, environment and security training
Maintain accurate records and prompt reporting of HSE hazards
Ensure staff are up to date with key HS&E training; coordinate with Training dept
Support first responders in triaging injured employees and coordinating medical treatment and doctor consultations
Coordinate communication with rehabilitation providers, insurers and the business
Support return-to-work plans aligned with capacity and duties
Prepare monthly reports for leadership on injuries and illnesses
Qualifications & skills
Formal qualifications in either Microbiology, Food Safety & Tech or HS&E are essential
Demonstrated success in a similar role; experience in either field or both is highly desirable
Exposure to a fast-paced, ideally large commercial or factory setting
Ability to work effectively solo and within a team
Understanding of applicable State Health, Safety & Environment legislation and Workers' compensation or Food Health and Safety guidelines
Competent in documentation and records management using Microsoft Office
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to obtain a clear National Police Check ( aviation services industry)
