The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has become available for a motivated and talented individual to join the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences as a Research Fellow in the Medicinal Chemistry Theme. The development of anti-malarial agents has been a significant research area within the Faculty. Reporting to Professor Peter Scammells, the focus of the study will be the development of small molecule enzyme inhibitors which block the Malaria parasite's ability to degrade haemoglobin and obtain amino acids needed for growth and survival.

As a Research Fellow your main responsibility will be the synthesis, purification, characterization and evaluation of novel PfM1 and M17 aminopeptidase inhibitors. This would include compound design, data management and analysis and sample preparation as well as a range of drug discovery-related activities.

The successful candidate will have:

* A PhD qualification in medicinal or organic chemistry
* Experience in the synthesis of small molecules
* An understanding of pharmacology and/or drug development will be highly regarded.
