Expressions of interest are invited for appointment of a Chair and members to the Mornington Peninsula Coast Committee of Management .
Mornington Peninsula Coast Committee of Management 's role is to manage the reserves consistently within their p urpose, and is responsible to the Minister for Environment, Steve Dimopoulos MP .
The committee sets the broad strategic direction for management of the reserve system, including business planning and preparation of budgets and takes a strategic long-term view when making decisions about the future of the coastline.
About the role
T hese positions provide an exciting opportunity to contribute and provide high level advice on the conservation and management of some of Victoria's coastal Crown land, including camp facility management, management of bathing boxes, and boatsheds as well as coastal related tenures, picnic facilities, boat launching facilities and the strategic management of the coast.
Five to seven members are needed to provide for the management of:
- Whitecliffs to Camerons Bight foreshore reserves including 7 kilometres of coastline from WhiteCliffs to Canterbury Jetty Road, from Canterbury Jetty Road to Stringer Road and from Stringer Road to Leggett Way forming the Tyrone Foreshore Reserve, Blairgowrie Foreshore Reserve and part of the Sorrento Foreshore Reserve respectively. The committee directly manages the camping facilities at Tyrone and Camerons Bight, 142 bathing boxes and boatsheds, small scale boat launching facilities, toilets, picnic facilities, and coastal related clubs as well as significant cultural and environmental values on the foreshore.
- Capel Sound Foreshores consist of 16.9 hectares of publicly owned foreshore extending 3.8km coastline stretching from Chinamans Creek in the east to Shirlow Avenue Rye in the west, between Capel Sound and Tootgarook including the Tootgarook West Rosebud Foreshore Reserve. It contains fauna and flora recently assessed as being of 'regional to state significance'. It also comprises some 350 camping sites, a boat ramp and seven amenity blocks to serve the campers and the public.
