Primary objective
Deliver competency-based Training and Assessment programs based on nationally accredited Vocational Education and Training (VET)
packages to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander secondary school students at Maningrida College. Work as part of the secondary team
to innovate and engage students to improve completion outcomes primarily in Certificate 1 Maritime (Coxswains grade 2 near coastal)
Context statement
Maningrida College is located in one of the largest Aboriginal communities in the Northern Territory, 550 km east of Darwin, delivering
education to approximately 660 students from preschool to senior years and provides education services to up to 15 Homeland Learning
Centres. The College incorporates a Family and Children Centre, Families as First Teachers program, Trade Training Centre, Learning on
Country Program and Indigenous Languages and Culture Team. The College strives to provide pathways opportunities for all secondary
students by fostering close partnerships with community organisations and other stakeholders and embedding vocational education into
senior secondary years.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Delivery of Certificate 1 Maritime (Coxswains grade 2 near coastal) (MAR10413) competency-based training and assessment to VET
for Secondary students including face-to-face delivery within the school environment and collaborate with staff in the VET and
Secondary team.
1. Ensure all RTO administration tasks are completed in a timely manner including enrolments, learning plans, session overviews, course
preparation, assessment delivery, student records, student reports and final assessment documentations.
1. Develop and review training and assessment resources to support delivery of accredited competencies and qualifications, particularly
to meet the needs of English as an Additional Dialect (EAL/D) learners.
1. Develop a range of delivery models to support the effective engagement in VET programs and provide reasonable adjustments that
meet the needs of students including literacy and numeracy support when required.
1. Ensure effective written and oral communication and engagement within the college and external agencies and work collaboratively
with teams across the college.
1. Attend professional development as required to enhance skills in vocational training, learning and assessment including maintaining
industry currency.
1. Maintain the Maningrida College vessel and Trade Training Centre in an orderly and functional manner in line with school-based,
Department and industry policies and procedures
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Currently hold a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, or the ability to attain a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment in
addition to extensive boating experience and knowledge.
2. Currently hold or willingness to obtain Certificate 1 in Maritime operations, coxswains grade 2 near coastal or higher
3. Demonstrated knowledge and appropriate written and oral communication skills to develop, implement training and assessment as
required in the VET Quality Framework (VQF) and Training Package Assessment Guidelines
4. Ability to manage and demonstrate participation in professional development programs, ensuring national standards for teaching
are maintained for registration with the NT TRB and industry currency requirements are maintained.
5. Ability to work flexibly including managing pressure and time in changing environments and modifying approaches to suit diverse
people and situations
6. Proven ability to interact effectively with teams in a cross-cultural environment and a willingness to learn and apply school-wide
practices such as trauma-informed behaviour support
