Cumberland City Council is located 20km west of Sydney on Dharug country, with a population of over 245,000 residents, and is the fourth most populous Local Government Area in Greater Sydney. Cumberland boasts one of the most diverse communities in Australia, with people from many different backgrounds and cultures living alongside one another.

The Ranger Team provide key regulatory functions across the Cumberland LGA, including general patrols, animal compliance, public amenity patrols, illegal dumping, waste, pollution control, and public compliance programs to help keep Cumberland City safe, accessible, and a great place to live and work.


About The Opportunity

The successful applicant will be part of the Ranger Team, ensuring that activities have a minimal adverse impact on amenity and the physical environment by enforcing a broad range of legislation and Council's policies.


The Successful Applicant Will Require

* Experience in the profession as a Ranger or equivalent (e.g., Community Law Enforcement Officer)
* Previous experience with the preparation and service of Notices, Orders, and Penalty Infringement Notices specifically under the Local Government Act, Public Spaces (Unattended Property) Act 2021, Companion Animals Act, and the Protection of the Environment Operations Act and the NSW Road Rules
* Completion of at least one or equivalent of the following courses, but not limited to:
o Certificate IV in Local Government (Regulatory Services)
o Certificate IV in Animal Control & Regulation
o Certificate IV in Local Government Investigation
o SDRO SEINS online training course
* Demonstrated oral and written communication skills
* Current NSW driver's license
* Current First Aid certificate


About This Role

* There are two (2) permanent, full-time positions
* 70 hour fortnight
* Access to Council's 9-day fortnight Rostered Day Off (RDO) arrangement
* Located at Council's Merrylands Office, with frequent travel required across Council worksites, and may be required to work across any of Council's work locations


Salary Information

* Grade 10 of the Cumberland Salary Structure with a salary range of $1,631.25 to $1,875.94 per week, plus 12% superannuation
* The commencing salary will be negotiated, taking into consideration the successful applicant's qualifications, skills, and experience related to the role
* Leaseback vehicle
* Mobile phone


What You'll Need To Have For This Role

* The right to live and work in Australia
* Be able to provide information for pre-employment checks required for the position, including attending a physical pre-employment medical examination as required
* Participate in health monitoring as outlined in the risk assessment for this position and Council's Health Monitoring Procedure, as required
* Provide evidence of your vaccination status as part of the employment screening process, in accordance with Council's COVID-19 Vaccination Procedure
