Exciting opportunity for a full time Tackling Indigenous (TIS) Male Support Officer in our Public Health Services Section, based in Tennant Creek.
Commence an exciting opportunity where you will be joining our Tackling Indigenous Smoking (TIS) Team to contribute to closing the gap in Indigenous health outcomes by reducing tobacco smoking as the most significant risk factor for chronic disease among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples within our Barkly Region.
About Us
Anyinginyi Health Aboriginal Corporation (AHAC) is a multi-disciplinary organisation which provides primary health care services to the Aboriginal people of Tennant Creek and the surrounding Barkly region, dedicated to ‘Closing the Gap’ in Aboriginal health within remote Australia.
Anyinginyi Health consists of four different sections (Health Services, Business Services, Public Health Unit, and Piliyintinji-Ki Stronger Families) which allow them to have a holistic approach to health ensuring that clients' physical and emotional health and wellbeing is given the utmost priority.
Anyinginyi Health's mission is to be a provider of high quality holistic primary health care services featuring prevention and treatment in the Barkly region in a culturally responsive way.
About The Role
As part of a small team and through community consultation, you will help develop and promote supportive resources and activities that are aimed at reducing the rates of smoking in Aboriginal communities and promoting smoke-free spaces, specifically in the Barkly Region.
More specifically, some of your duties will include:
- Assist the Team Leader and other PH staff to deliver smoking prevention and cessation campaigns, information sessions, and community events that are in accordance with the relevant guidelines and policies
- Help develop respectful relationships with Barkly Region communities
- Uphold the vision, mission and priorities of the organisation as determined by the Board of Directors
- Ensure all program materials are up to date, appropriate, relevant and engaging to the target audience
- Undertake administrative duties in line with program and organisational expectations, as directed
- Documenting and organising electronic client data records and registers
- Contribute to a culturally secure working environment
- Representing the TIS Program when collaborating with key stakeholders
- Work within the limits of confidentiality and privacy
- Travel to remote communities to deliver the TIS Program
- Participate in staff training and development
About You
As this position is an Aboriginal Identified position, to be successful in this role, you must be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Descent.
Essential Skills And Experience
- Willingness to undertake relevant training
- Experience working Aboriginal Community health or welfare services
- Ability to support the delivery of culturally responsive programs and services
- Understanding and respect of traditional cultures, values and protocols
- Ability to develop and maintain effective networks and relationships, particularly with diverse Aboriginal community groups
- Good time management, able to complete tasks before due dates
- Good communication skills, and ability to work with the TIS Team, and other teams across the organisation
- Experience using Microsoft Office Applications, such as Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel
- Able to create promotional and educational material such as posters
Desirable
- Experience and knowledge of the Tennant Creek and Barkly Region.
- 4WD training.
