Deputy Head of Mechanical Engineering Position
We are seeking a highly skilled Deputy Head of Mechanical Engineering to join our team. This is a challenging and rewarding role that requires strong leadership skills, technical expertise, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
About the Role
* The successful candidate will assist the Head of Mechanical Engineering with the management of the mechanical engineering department, including the design and testing of an orbital class rocket.
* They will be responsible for reviewing mechanical designs, structural interfaces, and temperature/pressure considerations in the design process.
* The ideal candidate will have experience with CAD systems, such as SolidWorks, Inventor, or CATIA, and simulation software, including ANSYS, NASTRAN, ABAQUS, or CFD codes.
* They will also possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead and motivate a team of engineers.
* In addition, they will have a proven track record of prioritizing and managing work demands, delivering outcomes, and demonstrating a commitment to health and safety, quality assurance, continuous improvement, and environmental management.
Key Responsibilities
* Assist in the review of mechanical designs, structural interfaces, and temperature/pressure considerations in the design process.
* Design and verify mechanical and structural systems to meet customer and company requirements for Gilmour rocket vehicles.
* Develop test plans for parts through development, qualification, and acceptance testing.
* Liaise with the Guidance and Propulsion departments as required.
* Ability to problem solve and understand complex problems, with the incumbent able to resolve situations that demand solutions.
* Review specifications and other data to develop mechanical layouts.
* Organize the timeline and milestone management of the mechanical engineering department.
Mandatory Qualifications
* Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
* 8 + years of experience in a professional mechanical engineering setting (excluding internships).
* At least 5 years' experience in a managerial capacity.
* NV1 Security Clearance eligible preferred.
* Highly developed CAD skills developed through design of parts and assemblies, or highly developed simulation skills with at least one commercial FEA or Multiphysics simulation package.
Desired Qualifications
* Demonstrated ability to manage and lead a team of mechanical engineers.
* Ability to manage large assembly models and drawings.
* Creative problem solver that can bring multiple disciplines together.
* Experience with Matlab, C++, Python, and other modelling and analysis tools.
* Knowledge of engineering analysis tools and CAD systems.
