Position overview
The Bureau of Meteorology is seeking a qualified Senior Infrastructure Engineer to provide support of day-to-day platform operations.
The successful applicant will be a key member of the Service & Infrastructure Management/ Platforms Services section within the Data and Digital group.
In this role, you will be required to work in a team-based environment and will take a significant role as part of a team in providing support of day-to-day platform operations. This will require responsibility for installation, configuration, security, and operational support of ICT data centre platform services.
Occasional work in a controlled Data Centre environment may be required. This may include limited heavy lifting of equipment (in-line with WH&S; policies and applied controls). The successful candidate will comply with all Bureau work, health and safety policies and procedures, and take reasonable care for their own health and safety and that of employees, contractors and visitors who may be affected by your conduct.
The successful candidate will be able to prioritise competing requirements in consultation with the infrastructure team, leading to effective and efficient job performance with limited direction.
The key duties of the position include
The responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:
1. Documentation and Design: Generate professional documentation for all aspects of Data Centre Compute and Storage infrastructure for a range of audiences. Create high and low-level design documents to guide deployments.
2. Problem-Solving and Support: Employ investigative skills to troubleshoot issues, offering support and guidance to users. Provide advice and assistance in a cooperative manner to IT specialists.
3. Research and Evaluation: Investigate issues and emerging technologies, making informed recommendations on software and hardware acquisitions.
4. Deployment and Testing: Lead implementation and migration planning, including the execution of test plans to validate new services and ensure they meet production requirements.
5. Stakeholder Engagement: Work with stakeholders to facilitate smooth migrations to new Data Centre environments, drafting and implementing detailed migration procedures.
6. Change Management and Optimization: Participate in Technology Change Management to ensure infrastructure availability and efficiency during transitions.
7. Capacity Management: Oversee capacity management to ensure infrastructure scalability, performance optimization, and efficient resource use.
8. Technical Expertise: Showcase deep knowledge in ICT Network technologies like VMware Virtualisation, various Enterprise Storage and Backup solutions, and physical server technologies.
9. Security and Compliance: Uphold security standards and compliance with regulations, implementing protective measures and monitoring adherence to policies to mitigate risks.
