Purpose of the Position
Batchelor Institute is committed to a both-ways learning philosophy. This is an important aspect of our higher degree by research training. This position requires the successful applicant to embed our both-ways learning philosophy in Indigenous higher degree by research training. This will include ensuring all research students are supported to include their perspectives, cultures, experiences and knowledge in all aspects of their research and research training. Depending on the level the successful applicant, the position may provide leadership to staff working in the graduate and higher degree by research team. This will include providing support to adjunct supervisors and ensuring that research students are making satisfactory progress. The position will also contribute to the development and delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate coursework. This will involve developing coursework, delivering lectures and marking assessments.
Duties
* Lead the development and delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate courses
* Supervise Indigenous higher degree by research students
* Lead the development and delivery of higher degree by research training for Indigenous higher degree by research students
* Supervise academic and administrative support staff
* Ensure that Indigenous higher degree by research students are matched with academic supervisors
* Provide advice and support to higher degrees by research students as required
* Provide effective primary and/or co-supervision to HDR candidates across the full candidature lifecycle
* Guide candidates in developing research proposals, methodologies, ethics applications, and projects
* Perform other academic and administrative duties as required
Selection Criteria
* Demonstrated ability to work effectively in culturally diverse teams within the social, political, and cultural environments of Indigenous Australian families, communities, and organisations.
* Highly effective interpersonal skills including proficient written and oral communication which can be adapted to meet the needs of people from all educational levels.
* Ability to build strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
* Demonstrated initiative and managing workload priorities.
* Understanding of Work Health and Safety principles and practices, and ability to comply with Institute WHS Policies and Procedures.
* Must have a PhD and proven experience supervising higher degree by research students.
* Ability to lead the development and delivery of research training for Indigenous higher degree by research students.
* Experience in supervising diverse cohorts.
* Understanding of the issues impacting on Indigenous students.
* Must be able to include Indigenous perspectives and experiences in higher degree by research training.
