The Department of Lands, Planning and Environment (DLPE) aims to facilitate sustainable economic development in the Northern Territory through planning, building and land management.
As a Strategic Land Use Planning Manager, your primary objective is to provide high level professional advice and information on strategic land use plans and policies in consultation with stakeholders and the community to ensure that land is developed for the sustainable economic, environmental and social benefit of Territorians.
Your key duties include developing complex strategic land use planning projects including regional, subregional and area planning and the development of strategic policy to facilitate development, economic growth and the delivery of land release and infrastructure programs. You will be responsible for providing high level professional advice and information to the Department, the Minister, the NT Planning Commission, the Development Consent Authority, relevant Government agencies, industry and the public on strategic land use plans and policies and lead the development and implementation of community and stakeholder consultation strategies on land use policy and planning issues. You will also be required to manage project timelines, budgets and reporting for strategic planning and policy projects and provide guidance and support to team members, contributing to effective collaboration and high-quality work.
To be successful, you are required to hold a degree or diploma qualification related to Land Use Planning from an Australian tertiary institution, have eligibility for admission, to full membership of the Planning Institute of Australia; and extensive knowledge and experience in dealing with a wide range of strategic land use and development planning issues. High-level oral and written communication skills, which allow for clear interaction and negotiation with people and organisations from diverse backgrounds including other agencies, industry and community groups is essential, as is a proven ability to operate in a highly public and politically sensitive environment.
