**THE POSITIONS**:
These positions are to assist in the care of children in our clints inpatient and outpatient services. Possible rotations include Ambulatory/Outpatient care, Neonatal & Paediatric Intensive Care and Transport, Paediatric Emergency, Paediatric Ward.
**THE HOSPITAL**:
This Hospital is the major paediatric and neonatal referral service, as well as the major university teaching hospital for the state of Tasmania. There is an active registrar training program including written and clinical exam preparation, research project support, and education in advanced training stream. Research is actively encouraged and supported through links with the University of Tasmania and the Menzies Research Institute.
**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES**:
The Registrar is responsible for the day-to-day management of private and public inpatients and outpatients within the Hospital and provides after-hours emergency cover.
- Admission and care of patients and liaison with Specialist Medical Staff regarding patients.
- Attend Specialist ward rounds and record all decisions made in the medical history.
- Timely response to calls by members of the patient's care team.
- Ensure that consultations occur when requested.
- Interact with families or carers of patients.
- Accurate and timely recording of drugs and treatment.
- Undertake procedures as required.
- Accurate, comprehensive, and contemporaneous recording in the medical record including progress notes each day.
- Discharge planning.
- Provide Discharge Summary compliant with policy (or the appropriate standards) to ensure safe clinical handover to community-based care providers.
- Provide after-hours cover as directed and short-term relief in other areas as required by the employer.
- Involvement in Quality Assurance activities.
- Involvement in educational activities or evidence of further self-directed learning as per registration requirements.
- Supervision of Residents, Interns and Medical Students.

**ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS**:
- Eligible for General or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
- Ability to work a 24/7 shift-work roster which will include some nights, public holidays and weekends
- Demonstrated ability to contribute to the general management of a clinical unit in a patient-focused environment, including the ability to work as a member of a multidisciplinary team
- Ability to work within personal level of expertise and seek assistance as needed from senior staff

Air travel from Devonport to Melbourne is less than one hour and relatively inexpensive. The Tasmanian housing market is very attractive to both families and investors, as house prices are significantly lower than on mainland Australia.
The population of the area is approximately 116,000 within a total Tasmanian population of around 500,000. There's a wealth of stories here too, with great museums and significant Aboriginal heritage sites, while the region's creative spirit is showcased in the many art galleries, public artworks, artisan shops and markets found along the coast.
