About the team
The Corporate Finance team within City Operations plays a critical role in ensuring the integrity, accuracy and compliance of Council’s financial asset records. The team works collaboratively with asset custodians, finance officers and project stakeholders to manage Council’s financial asset register and support sound financial decision-making.This team is committed to continuous improvement, strong governance and delivering high-quality financial information that supports Council operations and long-term asset management.
About the role
The Financial Asset Officer is responsible for supporting the identification, capture, maintenance and reconciliation of Council’s financial assets in accordance with relevant standards and procedures.
Reporting to the Asset Coordination Officer and working closely with the Corporate Asset Accountant, you will analyse capital expenditure, maintain the financial asset register, perform reconciliations and investigate anomalies across systems and data sources.
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Extracting and analysing capital expenditure for asset capitalisation
• Maintaining and updating Council’s financial asset register
• Performing reconciliations between financial systems and registers
• Raising general ledger journals in line with accounting requirements
• Investigating discrepancies and resolving asset-related data issues
• Liaising with internal stakeholders to gather and verify asset information
• Supporting asset accounting processes, controls and improvements
This role is ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, analytical and enjoys working with financial data and systems.

• Experience working with financial data, reconciliations or asset registers
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
• Ability to interpret financial information and investigate discrepancies
• Experience using financial systems, spreadsheets and business software
• Good communication skills and the ability to work with diverse stakeholders
• Ability to follow procedures while contributing to process improvements
• Strong organisational skills and ability to meet deadlines
