Senior Automation Tester
Contract: 12 months + 2x12-month extension options
Max Hours: 40 hours per week
Location: QLD, ACT, VIC, or NSW (Capital Cities Only)
Security Clearance: Must be able to obtain Baseline clearance (Current clearance highly regarded)
About the Role
Government Department is seeking a Senior Automation Tester to join an Agile Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT). You will be responsible for constructing automated tests that confirm systems and services function appropriately, ensuring ICT solutions are fit for purpose and meet high-quality architectural and functional requirements.
This role requires a balance of technical execution and leadership. You will design and build automation frameworks, develop automation strategies, and mentor staff to develop team capability.
Key Responsibilities
* Framework & Strategy: Design, build, and maintain automation test frameworks; lead the automation strategy and effort.
* Execution: Utilize approved frameworks to develop automation in a fast-paced agile environment, selecting and identifying test cases from existing documentation.
* Defect Management: Identify, analyse, and document all defects and operational inconsistencies using HP ALM Quality Centre or similar tools.
* Technical Analysis: Create and execute complex test cases using in-depth technical analysis of specifications.
* Collaboration: Work closely with manual testers, developers, and SMEs to understand business domains and system functionality.
* Leadership: Manage a small team, including setting local priorities, managing resources, and providing coaching and mentoring to staff.
* Environment Support: Assist with defining requirements for test environments and contribute to team improvement initiatives (tools and process changes).
Required Skills & Technologies
To be successful in this role, you must demonstrate proficiency in the following:
* Scripting Languages: Python, TypeScript, and JavaScript.
* Testing Tools: HP ALM Quality Centre (Strong familiarity required).
* Cloud & Infrastructure: Experience with AWS-hosted applications and Docker/Kubernetes.
* DevOps/CI-CD: GitLab CI, GitHub, or Azure DevOps.
* API & Performance: Postman (API testing) and Load Testing automation.
* Methodologies: BDD (Behaviour Driven Development) and Agile MDT environments.
* UI/Accessibility: Experience in UI and accessibility testing setup (Desirable).
Qualifications & Experience
* 3+ years of dedicated Automation Test development.
* Formal Testing Qualification or equivalent demonstrated professional experience.
Working Arrangements
* Initial Period: The successful candidate must work from the designated capital city location on a full-time basis for the first 6 weeks.
* Hybrid Model: Following the initial period, a hybrid arrangement (minimum 3 days per week onsite) will be considered.
* Candidates must reside within a reasonable travel distance to the capital city office in their selected state.
