The Opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity to join a large mortgage & lending services organisation with a strong commitment to staff development, values, and a positive workplace culture. They require additional support in their finance team to provide high-quality accounting and accounts support while they go through the migration to a new finance system.
We are seeking an experienced Accountant or Assistant Accountant who can commence in late Jan – early Feb 2026 to work as part of their accounting team to support them while the company goes through system upgrades and project timelines over the 6 month period.
The Position The Accountant / Finance Support Officer will involve a blend of accounting and finance officer responsibilities with the accurate and timely processing of financial transactions relating to loan payments, discharges and loan adjustments, the provision of invoice and payment services and reporting and the provision of finance support to the Financial Controller across various financial and management accounting tasks including financial control, procurement, Project finance management, tax, treasury and business partnering.
In this position you will also apply accounting principles to analyse and report on financial information, including the preparation of statutory and management accounts and for providing general support to the Finance Team and wider business.
Position Responsibilities…
Financial accounting, reporting and compliance
* Apply accounting principles and maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant accounting standards.
* Prepare and analyse financial and non-financial information to support management, Board, and external reporting.
* Complete month-end and year-end processes, including reconciliations, journals, financial statements, and audit support.
* Ensure compliance with tax obligations (GST, FBT, Income Tax Equivalent Regime).
* Prepare and submit statutory and regulatory reporting (DTF, ABS, SA Government, Procurement SA, Assets reporting).
Transaction processing and operational finance
* Verify, calculate, prepare and post journals and loan transactions (advances, repayments, pay-outs, adjustments) into the core loan management and general ledger systems.
* Process customer loan transactions through online banking and reconcile daily banking and cashbooks.
* Process accounts payable activities, including invoice verification, GST and expense coding, supplier maintenance, and payments.
* Follow up unidentified loan repayments and resolve transaction discrepancies.
* Process broker commission payments and respond to related queries.
* Perform valuation system reconciliations and correction journals.
Business support and stakeholder engagement
* Provide technical and operational finance support to leaders and staff across the business.
* Respond promptly and professionally to queries from internal and external stakeholders, including suppliers, banks, brokers, government agencies, and auditors.
* Prepare financial analysis and insights to support decision-making and projects.
* Provide backup support for critical Finance team functions and participate in finance-related projects as required.
About You…
We are looking for someone who ideally has experience as an accountant or assistant accountant who can work across many aspects of finance including accounting and transactional finance.
* Strong experience in financial accounting and transactional finance operations.
* Experience working as an Accountant or Assistant Accountant with 2 plus years experience.
* Understanding of loan accounting, banking transactions, and reconciliations advantageous.
* Hands on experience with taxation and compliance.
* High attention to detail with the ability to meet deadlines.
* Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
* Experience using financial systems (e.g. loan management systems, general ledger, online banking platforms).
* Ability to work collaboratively, manage competing priorities, and support continuous improvement.
* Qualifications in finance, accounting or bookkeeping.
* Experience working in the banking industry or lending advantageous.
* Possess intermediate to advanced Excel skills and intermediate Word skills.
* Sound time management skills with the flexibility to juggle the simultaneous demands.
