This is an exciting opportunity to join the SBS News Audio team to work as an audio journalist, contributing to our daily news bulletins and pitching and producing original daily news podcasts. This role is classified as Level 2 role under SBS Australia's current Enterprise Agreement (with a base salary range of $68,239 - $89,139). The successful applicant will be offered remuneration that is commensurate with their skills and experience and in alignment with this framework. The role is rostered and involves a mix of early mornings, evening, day and weekend shifts. As a rostered shiftworker, additional shift penalty payments may apply for work performed outside of ordinary hours, including weekends and public holidays, as per the SBS Enterprise Agreement (EA). SBS may also require you to work reasonable overtime, where overtime will be paid at applicable rates in accordance with the EA. Shift patterns may change over time depending on operational needs. What you’ll do In this hands-on role, you’ll write, voice and produce content for our suite of Audio news offerings, from daily news bulletins to in-depth podcasts that make complex stories accessible and engaging. On any given day, you will: Pitch, write, produce and voice news content for audio bulletins and daily news feature podcasts Cover breaking news and conduct daily newsgathering, drawing on agency sources, line up and carry out interviews, research and fact-checking Take a deeper dive on topics to create in-depth news stories (3-8 min stories) Optimise and publish audio stories via our CMS Applying audience data insights to shape story development and production Collaborating with colleagues across SBS teams, including digital and TV news teams, NITV and SBS journalists working in-language Contributing to the evolution of SBS audio products, bringing forward fresh ideas This role is right for you if You’re a curious, creative and collaborative journalist with a passion for audio storytelling and a strong grasp of news and current affairs. You love the challenge of distilling complex stories into sharp, engaging and accurate audio that informs and inspires listeners, pitching and reporting on distinct news stories.
