Overview
Mediclinic Newcastle – South Africa is recruiting a Unit Manager for the surgical ward. The closing date for this position is 02/03/2026.
Main Purpose
The Unit Manager manages a specific nursing unit to ensure safe patient care and a positive client experience. They further manage human and other resources to ensure that staff are engaged and processes are optimised, while overseeing operational and capital expenses.
Key Responsibility Areas
* Ensure safe patient care by meeting set clinical quality standards according to company policies and procedures
* Manage and mitigate clinical risks in the unit
* Lead and manage the staff in the unit
* Manage the unit's operational and capital expenses according to financial and budget guidelines, ensuring optimal utilisation of resources
* Support the achievement of inter‐departmental outcomes
* Manage key stakeholder relations and contribute to a positive client experience in the hospital
Required Education
* Professional Nurse qualification
* Postgraduate Diploma in Health Services Management or an Accredited Management Qualification
* Alternatively: 5 years of leadership experience in a hospital plus a Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing if managing a specialist unit (e.g. Perioperative Nursing)
Required Experience
* 5 years of Professional Nurse experience in a hospital
* 2 years of leadership experience in a hospital
