About the role
The Legal Support Officer (LSO) works closely with the Coordinator, Legal Support Services to support the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (Cth) to fulfil its purpose through the delivery of a broad range of administrative support services to the legal practice groups in accordance with our national service offer.
In this role, the LSO is responsible for undertaking general administrative support services to meet the day-to-day needs of the legal practice groups. The Legal Support Office will operate under general direction within a dynamic operating environment to provide a range of contemporary support services that are efficient and streamlined. They will complete allocated tasks using legal practice business systems and digital litigation tools to support the analysis, management, and presentation of large and complex cases.
Responsibilities
* Creation and administration of case files, photocopying, filing, data entry, and records management.
* Drafting emails, routine correspondence and documents from templates.
* Witness coordination, drafting summons/subpoenas, arranging travel and other court-related tasks.
* Preparing court materials, undertaking deliveries and collections, and lodging/filing documentation.
* Conducting basic research activities, arranging video conferencing, interpreters and translators.
* Liaising with Federal Prosecutors, external agencies, courts and counsel.

* Undertaking a range of efficient and contemporary administrative support services for the legal practice groups, delivering quality outcomes.
* Providing advice on service catalogue, systems and process to team members and stakeholders.
* Performing research and analysis and resolving general queries based on established procedures and available information sources.
* Cultivating effective relationships and liaising with stakeholders to resolve straightforward operational issues.
* Completing allocated tasks, setting own priorities and managing workloads to meet deadlines.
* Collaborating with relevant business areas, promoting a positive team-work culture, and contributing to broader CDPP and APS objectives.

About the team
The Legal Support Services team sits within the CDPP's Legal Capability and Performance Practice Group and works in partnership with colleagues across the Enabling Services Group to support prosecutors in our legal practice groups.
The Legal Support Services team's main focus is the coordination and delivery of a broad range of administrative and litigation support services to our legal practice groups in accordance with our national service offer, operational requirements and performance standards. The team is focused on delivering timely, quality services to support the day-to-day needs of the legal practice and has a physical presence in each CDPP office.

About the agency
The Office of the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions (CDPP) is an independent prosecution service established by Parliament to prosecute alleged offences against Commonwealth criminal law. We aim to provide an effective, ethical, high quality and independent criminal prosecution service for Australia in accordance with the Prosecution Policy of the Commonwealth.
The diverse, complex and interesting cases prosecuted by the CDPP range across four national practice groups and include drug importation, online child sexual exploitation, terrorism, espionage, money laundering, human trafficking, slavery and slavery-like practices, tax fraud, welfare fraud, medifraud, people smuggling offences, offences against the corporations legislation, cartel offences and a range of regulatory offences.
How and where we work
The CDPP employs staff across 10 offices around Australia, including Adelaide, Brisbane, Cairns, Canberra, Darwin, Hobart, Melbourne, Perth, Sydney and Townsville. The majority of our employees are lawyers, but we also employ people to provide a range of enabling services including litigation support, finance, IT, library and information management, human resources and administrative support.
