Data Manager – AYA

* Ongoing, Part Time 48 hours per fortnight
* Parkville location, with multiple transport options at our doorstep
* Manage, analyse and maintain AYA cancer datasets and databases

About your role

An exciting new opportunity has arisen to join the Victorian Adolescent & Young Adult Cancer Service as a Data Manager. The Data Manager strengthens the Victorian AYA Cancer Service's data capability and supports data‐driven quality improvement across the sector. The role manages, analyzes, and maintains datasets and the clinical database, ensuring data accuracy and usability. It produces clear reports and visualisations for stakeholders and works closely with clinicians and partners to understand reporting needs and improve the use of cancer data for performance monitoring and service design.

The position supports clinical audits, contributes to standardised reporting requirements, and undertakes additional data tasks for senior leadership. It collaborates with partner hospitals to develop a statewide AYA dataset and provides expert advice on data collection processes. The role also develops data collection tools, represents the service in relevant forums, and identifies opportunities for data linkage and collaboration to advance data‐informed improvements in AYA cancer care.

Remuneration

As per the HEALTH AND ALLIED SERVICES, MANAGERS AND ADMINISTRATIVE WORKERS (VICTORIAN PUBLIC SECTOR) (SINGLE INTEREST EMPLOYERS) ENTERPRISE AGREEMENT 2021-2025 – Grade 7 (HS7) 122,106.4 (full-time) to be pro‐rated, based on candidate experience. To be discussed with Hiring Manager.

Position Summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic, multidisciplinary team dedicated to improving outcomes for adolescents and young adults (AYA) with cancer. The Victorian AYA Cancer Service is a Victorian and Federally Government funded, state‐wide initiative aimed at improving the delivery of high‐quality care for young Victorians diagnosed with cancer. In addition to its clinical program, the service leads a number of state‐wide initiatives designed to strengthen AYA cancer care across Victoria including education and training, workforce development, capacity building and data‐driven improvements.

The AYA Data Manager will work collaboratively with the leadership team, partner health services and key stakeholders to embed robust, data‐driven quality and performance monitoring, and service improvement for AYA cancer care across Victoria. This role will strengthen data capability within the team and broader network and work with statewide datasets to generate insights into trends and outcomes for AYA with cancer.

Skills

Essential Requirements

* Tertiary qualification in Health Information Management / Computer Sciences / Life Sciences / Information Technology / Data Governance and Management or relevant experience working in a clinical / programming / pharmaceutical / research environment
* Extensive experience in working with clinical data
* Advanced data analysis and interpretation skills including sound working knowledge of general data analysis methods and commitment to quality data management principles
* Well‐developed interpersonal skills, incorporating high level of computer literacy and capability, written and verbal communication, negotiation and facilitation skills
* Demonstrated ability to perform work accurately, methodically, and within time constraints
* Ability to work confidently both independently and within a multidisciplinary team
* Knowledge of relevant database systems (e.g., MS Access, RedCAP, Other)
* Familiar with medical terminology and ICD-10-AM coding standards
* Familiar with the Victorian Health Data Standards and Systems (HDSS) minimum datasets
* Knowledge of clinical benchmarking and quality indicators
* Experience in the use of Epic (EMR)
* Minimum of two years' postgraduate experience in a healthcare setting
* Project management experience

Key Accountabilities

1. Strategic Data Leadership

* Provide strategic leadership for data, analytics and reporting across the Victorian AYA Cancer Service.
* Lead statewide reporting on AYA cancer to identify trends, outcomes, variations in care and opportunities for improvement across the healthcare system.
* Identify and assess relevant data sources for linkage (e.g., clinical, registry, administrative and population datasets) to strengthen understanding of AYA cancer outcomes and care pathways across Victoria.
* Build and maintain strong relationships with partner health services, statewide data agencies and sector stakeholders to strengthen data capability and collaboration.

2. Data Systems Management and Data quality

* Oversee the management, maintenance and enhancement of the Victorian AYA Cancer Service's clinical and research data systems, ensuring accurate, reliable and accessible data.
* Lead routine data quality processes, including auditing, cleaning and validation of clinical and service datasets.
* Manage data ingestion, extraction and transformation across legacy and current systems to support reporting, evaluation and improvement initiatives.
* Develop clear, user friendly reports, visualisations and dashboards that support clinical audit, performance monitoring and service planning.
* Ensure consistent and compliant data reporting to government and partner organisations, aligned with required standards and contractual obligations.

3. Team support

* Support the multidisciplinary AYA team by providing expert guidance on data collection processes and requirements.
* Develop bespoke data collection tools to support the collection and analysis of data pertaining to service improvement including PROMs/PREMs and evaluation of psychosocial outcomes.
