The Role

Primary Purpose

The HR Officer supports the delivery of HR services across the employee lifecycle by providing hands on administration and coordination support, and practical HR advice. This role balances the operational execution with emerging advisory capability, providing initial guidance to employee and managers for routine people matters while escalating complex issues. This role is responsible for the delivery of exceptional customer service to their internal customer base.

Key Responsibilities HR administration and employee support

* Prepare various employment documents, including contracts, variations, exits and letters using appropriate templates.
* Maintain accurate employee records, files and HR system.
* Act as a first point of contact for all employee and HR matters, providing timely support and advice.
* Support leadership to maintain relevant documentation across the employee lifecycles, specifically performance management and matters.

Recruitment and onboarding

* Manage end-to-end recruitment support, including coordinating key recruitment activities including advertising, candidate screening, interview support, offer management and contract preparation.
* Ensure robust pre‐employment check, safeguarding requirements, and compliance documentation are correctly completed and stored.
* Support the delivery of the induction and onboarding processes to ensure a positive experience and readiness for new team members across corporate and program contexts.

Compliance and reporting

* Support compliance with employment legislation, DFAT requirements and internal policies.
* Assist with audits, reporting and data integrity checks.
* Maintain HR documentation such as policies and procedures, policy registers etc. and manage the relevant review processes as needed.

Employee relations and performance support

* Providing initial HR advice to managers and employees on policies, procedures and employment matters, escalating matters when appropriate.
* Support the performance reviews, grievances and disciplinary processes as needed.

Learning, development and engagement

* Design and oversee an annual performance review lifecycle
* As part of the performance management framework, ensure all employees have Terms of Reference and KPIs in place
* Support and participate in learning and development opportunities.
* Assist in the development, executing and resourcing of any external programs.
* Help create and deliver internal training initiatives and opportunities across the organisation.
* Maintain training registers, regularly auditing and reporting to leadership on non‐compliance, and upcoming training needs.
* Support learning, capability and engagement initiatives of the organisation.

Staff wellbeing and safety

* Work with the Safeguarding Officer to embed child protection and PSEAH standards throughout the employee lifecycle
* Assist in the development and delivery of staff wellbeing and safety programs across the organisation.
* Assist with the coordination of workplace health and safety processes, including incident reporting and record keeping.
* Promote a safe and including workplace by reinforcing policies and expected workplace behaviours.

Skills and Experiences Essential

* 2-3 years' experience in a HR administration or coordination role
* Working knowledge of Australian employment legislation, HR compliance, and best practice
* Strong interpersonal and rapport building skills
* Strong attention to details and organisational skills

Highly regarded

* Experience in a consulting, international development, or professional services, project-based environments.
* Exposure to donor-funded environment or compliance heavy settings.
* Exposure in working with remote, hybrid or cross-cultural teams.
