Your Role – What You'll Be Doing
As an Advanced Mechanical Tradesperson, you'll take the lead on high-level maintenance, diagnostics, and repair work that demands experience, independence, and precision.
* Lead complex diagnostics across diesel, hydraulic, pneumatic, and flameproof systems, often working autonomously.
* Overhaul and rebuild major components – including engines, transmissions, braking systems, and flameproof machinery – to meet strict compliance and certification standards.
* Plan and scope repairs, from assessing job requirements and ordering parts to managing time and ensuring quality outcomes with minimal rework.
* Take ownership of problems, thinking on your feet to deliver safe, reliable solutions when unexpected challenges arise.
* Maintain high‐quality documentation, including root cause analysis, compliance reporting, and detailed service records for internal and regulatory use.
* Mentor and support apprentices and Level 1 trades, sharing your technical expertise, promoting safe work practices, and setting the standard for quality and professionalism.
* Collaborate with supervisors, engineers, and clients to communicate technical issues, recommend improvements, and shape preventative maintenance strategies.
* Drive continuous improvement by suggesting smarter, safer, and more reliable maintenance methods
What We're Looking For
* Certificate III in Mechanical Trade (Diesel Fitter / Diesel Mechanic) or equivalent.
* Appointment as a Competent Person (Diesel) under RII DES standards.
* 2+ years' experience with flameproof underground machinery or 5+ years in heavy industry (mining, shipbuilding, aerospace, oil & gas).
* Advanced troubleshooting skills across mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
* Strong ability to plan, execute, and deliver high‐quality work independently.
* Clear communication and record‐keeping skills.
