* Canberra-based role supporting critical national systems
* Opportunity to contribute to the sustainment and enhancement of a large-scale Mainframe Application Developer.

Resolve Recruit is partnering with a Commonwealth Government department seeking an experienced Mainframe Application Developer to support the development and sustainment of critical enterprise systems.

Working as part of a multidisciplinary ICT team, you will collaborate with developers, business analysts, project managers and ICT support staff to deliver reliable and secure software solutions supporting high-volume government service delivery.

The environment incorporates a combination of IBM mainframe technologies and modern application platforms, requiring strong development capability alongside sound troubleshooting and systems support skills.

Key Responsibilities
* Develop, maintain and enhance enterprise applications within a large-scale IBM mainframe environment
* Write efficient, well-structured and testable code using COBOL and related mainframe technologies
* Produce technical specifications and assess operational feasibility for development tasks
* Integrate software components into fully functional systems
* Perform unit and component testing and support broader testing activities
* Document system functionality and maintain accurate technical documentation
* Prepare time and effort estimates for development activities
* Support code deployment and implementation activities
* Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues in production and non-production environments
* Participate in incident response and remediation activities
* Collaborate with project managers, business analysts and developers to deliver high-quality solutions
* Adhere to government change management, release and cyber security standards
* Provide technical advice and share knowledge with team members
* Liaise with third-party suppliers and service providers where required
* Participate in forward planning activities to ensure systems continue to meet future demand
* Provide after-hours support as part of a rotating roster when required
Key Experience and Skills
* Demonstrated experience developing and supporting IBM mainframe applications
* Strong knowledge of technologies including:
o COBOL
o CICS
o JCL
o VSAM
o DB2
* Experience working with mainframe operating systems such as z/OS or z/VSE
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
* Experience debugging and resolving complex technical issues
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Ability to work collaboratively with technical and business stakeholders
* Experience maintaining technical documentation and development artefacts
* A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent experience in mainframe application development, is highly desirable.
Security Requirements

Applicants must hold an active Negative Vetting 1 Security Clearance (or higher) to be considered.
