About the Role
As our Payroll Officer, you will play a key role in ensuring Carers SA's payroll is accurate, compliant, and delivered on time. Working as part of a small, dedicated team, you'll manage end-to-end payroll processing, maintain payroll systems, and support Carers SA to meet legislative, award and statutory requirements.
You'll provide advice on payroll matters, work closely with leaders across the organisation, support improvements to payroll and HR systems, and ensure all employee data is maintained accurately. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys a mix of processing, problem-solving, and people support — and who thrives in a role with variety and responsibility.
Key responsibilities (not limited to)
* Process fortnightly payroll accurately and in line with legislation, policies, and procedures
* Liaise with Line Managers to ensure time and attendance data is correct and submitted on time
* Maintain employee payroll records and ensure all system changes are completed accurately
* Support improvements to payroll and HR systems and advise on legislative or award changes
* Provide training and guidance to staff on timesheets, forms, and payroll processes
* Manage salary packaging processing and liaise with CBB on payroll‑related issues
* Calculate Award increases, salary changes, and incremental progression
* Conduct payroll reporting, reconciliations, superannuation processing, STP lodgements, EOFY and WorkCover reconciliations
* Keep payroll‑related spreadsheets and audit information up to date
* Support payroll‑related projects, policy updates and implementation of new systems
About You
You're an organised, detail‑focused payroll professional who takes pride in accuracy and service. You enjoy balancing processing tasks with helping internal stakeholders understand payroll requirements and changes.
You'll bring
* Demonstrated payroll coordination experience
* Strong knowledge of payroll legislation, taxation requirements, and Award interpretation
* Experience with KeyPay or Employment Hero (highly desirable)
* Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills
* Strong organisation, planning and time‑management skillsAbility to analyse data, prepare accurate reports and meet deadlines
* A collaborative approach and commitment to continuous improvement
* Experience in the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services industry
* Knowledge of the Carer sector
Requirements
* Diploma of Payroll Services / Cert IV Bookkeeping or significant experience
* Current DHS Working with Children Check
* Current National Police Check
* Mandatory child protection training (or willingness to complete)
