**About the Opportunity**
The Microbiology Laboratory at Nepean Hospital is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Laboratory Manager with knowledge and experience in Clinical Microbiology and Molecular Biology to join our dynamic and multi-skilled team.
This position will be covering for a maternity relief position for up to 12 months, and is an excellent career advancement opportunity for a suitably qualified Senior Scientist wishing to expand on their experience in clinical operations, people management, and all aspects related to the day to day running of a Pathology Microbiology Laboratory.

**What you'll be doing**
Responsible for managing the Microbiology and Molecular Biology laboratory to provide an efficient and effective service across operational management, compliance management, financial planning and reporting, department performance monitoring and reporting, corporate risk management, human resources management and strategic planning.
This role is also responsible for the technical scientific supervision of peripheral laboratories located at Bathurst, Orange, Lithgow and Blue Mountains.
- Proven leadership and operational management skills and experience including budget management, staff and resource management and maintenance of professional standards and accreditation within organisational funding and performance frameworks
- Demonstrated experience with the implementation of quality improvement and risk management including an understanding of the relevant legislative and regulatory requirements in healthcare
- Demonstrated experience in change management and use of financial, statistical, human resources and management data to proactively improve laboratory efficiency and effectiveness
- Demonstrated strategic thinking and professional networks in a specialty of pathology relevant to the laboratory, and understanding of the role and function of public laboratories within the Australian and NSW health systems
- Demonstrated commitment to excellent customer service with a high level of interpersonal, communication, negotiation and influencing skills and the ability to develop and maintain strong collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders and interact professionally with a diverse range of people at all levels.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver practical training to medical, scientific, and technical staff, as well as to contribute to ongoing training assessments and staff competency verification programs.
