Position Overview
Your role at St John of God Geelong Hospital We are seeking an experienced and motivated Associate Midwifery Unit Manager (AMUM) to join our Women and Newborn Services team. The Associate Nurse Unit Manager acts as a responsible team member and leader, assisting in the overall clinical management of the ward and ensuring the provision of comprehensive patient care and supervision of nursing care in accordance with AHPRA requirements.
Working 0.57 EFT on a permanent part‐time basis, you will provide clinical leadership and operational support across Birth Suite, Postnatal and Special Care Nursery, ensuring the delivery of safe, high‐quality, woman‐centred care.
Responsibilities
* Monitor staff levels against budget/target levels related to number of bed days, occupancy and patient acuity; adjust staffing levels in consultation with the Unit Manager and/or Coordinator according to changes in levels.
* Provide leadership and direction to the team in the absence of the Nursing Unit Manager, acting as a role model and resource person.
* Assist the Nurse Unit Manager with human resources issues within the department and assume full responsibility in the manager's absence.
* Maintain and promote harmonious interpersonal relationships and effective teamwork between staff, patients, relatives, doctors and ancillary staff.
* Participate as a valued team member, promoting and contributing to a supportive team environment.
* Participate in, contribute to and implement quality improvement and risk management into all aspects of service.
* Participate in the documentation of Risk Assessments and Standard Operating Procedures for activities that could pose an occupational health and safety risk.
* Raise OHS issues with appropriate caregivers and take part in OHS consultative arrangements.
* Demonstrate progress towards the achievement of goals and personal and professional growth.
Qualifications
You will have a registration with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse Midwife or Registered Midwife, have well-developed analytical and problem‐solving skills, and be knowledgeable of acts and legislation that impact on nursing practice.
Experience & Skills
To succeed, you will demonstrate strong delegation, planning, organisational and motivational skills, supported by solid clinical experience in Birth Suite (essential). You will have demonstrated leadership or acting‐in‐charge experience, a commitment to ongoing education and self‐directed learning, and the ability to effectively communicate and educate patients, families and staff. You will also be able to work confidently across a rotating AM/PM/Night Duty roster.
Benefits
* Salary: $115,908 to $119,811 (pro rata for part time), plus 12% superannuation.
* Permanent part‐time position working 45 hours per fortnight.
