About the Woolworths Legal Team Our Legal team supports the entire Group by providing thought leadership and professional, independent legal advice that addresses the company's risk profile and helps guide our teams to lead the market. We aspire to the highest professional standards and aim to deliver exceptional legal services with a strong commercial and strategic understanding. The People Legal team is a specialist team within our broader Legal function, supporting the People (Human Resources) team. It advises and works across Woolworths Group on the full range of employment, IR and safety issues. About the Opportunity We are seeking a new colleague with broad experience, and particular expertise in industrial relations and compliance matters. This role is a superb opportunity to use your specialist legal, business partnering and commercial acumen, to provide advice and support across a broad portfolio. This includes providing both strategic and day-to-day advice and also partnering on employment litigation. The role is Group wide and supports businesses including Woolworths Retail, BIG W, online/digital businesses like WooliesX and Cartology, plus our supply chain/logistics business (Primary Connect) and various corporate functions. What you’ll do No two days are the same, and the scope of this role is very broad. On any given day, you may work across a wide range of matters, including: Advising on Enterprise Agreement or Award interpretation, negotiations and related FWC applications (industrial disputes, EA approvals, industrial action). Managing a range of escalated litigated claims including unfair dismissal, general protections, bullying, discrimination/harassment and other Court proceedings, including working with external panel law firms and Counsel. Providing expert advice on escalated matters from a range of People teams, including grievances and investigations, compliance and remediation issues, reward and remuneration, restructures, and recruitment and restraints. Reviewing, drafting and advising on key People policies, templates, contracts, processes and remuneration arrangements. Work health and safety matters including governance and due diligence arrangements, incident support and investigations, and regulatory actions. Various other issues including whistleblowing matters, responsible sourcing and modern slavery issues, privacy, restructures and corporate/M&A support. What you’ll bring You will bring strong technical capability, well honed interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to build trusted and effective partnering relationships with other lawyers, HR leaders and business stakeholders. You will demonstrate personal leadership and resilience, while working in a supportive and collaborative team. To be successful in this role you will: Hold a Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctor and an Australian practising certificate, with 5 years PQE. Have experience working in the employment/workplace legal team at a significant law firm and/or large complex organisation. Have strong expertise in a full range of employment and industrial areas, including contracts and policies, investigations and whistleblowing, employment litigation, compliance, awards, EAs and bargaining and WHS. Have demonstrated ability to keep abreast of regulatory change, and to quickly and effectively communicate reforms and support implementation and compliance. Have the ability to think holistically and strategically (not just solving the question at hand), exercise sound judgement, and utilise strong analytical and communication skills in order to make the complex simple.
